426 HP and great gas mileage
Took a trip to Montana from Oregon this weekend. 950 miles of mountain passes and a few cities to slow me down but even with all that i drove 80 mph and averaged 25.7 MPG. who cares about a V6 mustang that gets 30 mpg when the hotrod camaro SS gets almost as much and looks better doing it?

I can average 29 on the freeyway, and I'm supercharged, so I agree with your point also.
My average for freeway is around 27.2 though. |

I couldn't agree more. I've got 420 miles on my current take and it's showing 65 miles left. The tank even includes driving through Glacier Park up big hills and dealing with slow drivers, and pulling over to take pictures.

It just depends on how you drive. If I decide to have fun, I'm sure I could average 18 on the freeway. but cruising at 65ish gets me some great mileage.

Maybe it has something to do with the humid air down here in south florida because I can't get near those numbers that some here are getting. |

i drove over 4 mountain passes including the continental divide. if i had been traveling across nebraska or kansas my average would have been much better. i also drove in stop and go traffic in portland and Spokane plus a few construction zones in idaho and Montana.. this mileage was in an LS3 car with no DOD

55 isn't 70, and certainly not his 80mph. Not sure how anyone can drive 55 without getting rear ended or pissing off a lot of drivers, but with your A/C off, I can see getting 29 @ 55. I dunno, maybe it is the humid air here. I'll check into it, but something's up. |

Modern pony/musclecars simply amaze me with the power they make and the mileage they are still able to achieve. My '06 GTO would average about 28mpg on the highway, the new Camaro SS gets about the same, if not better. I averaged 27mpg with the cruise set on 70mph on my way to Bowling Green and back (~200 mile trip) this weekend in the GT500.
One other point that makes a big difference. Fuel. I was running gasoline with no ethanol content. If you are running a gasoline/ethanol blend, your gas mileage will definitely suffer as a result. Too many variables to sit here and say what a car will or will not average MPG-wise. |
