I drove from just south of Austin Tx to Gillette Wyoming, and averaged just over 25 mpg with the a/c on and cruising at 75 to 80... My SS's mpg's did drop off a tad when I got out of Texas and could no longer find 93 octane gas. 91 in some places, and 89 in most others... clocked 4200 miles on the round trip... Drove back through the rockies, 2 days up there, 7 days to get back...

What? How is this possible? I don't gas it and driving from Seattle to Portland and back doing 60-70mph I don't get even 400 miles out of the tank. Done the trip twice now.

Some of these gas mileage claims amaze me.

I have and axle back exhaust and a K&N intake. No other mods so something's up for sure. The best I can get is like 25 or 26 on flat highway (no a/c, 70mph in 6th), and city is 13-14 (less if I have fun)
I think they will tell you they don't guarantee mileage. As the window sticker says "for comparison purposes".

I think they are bluffing, or are driving 40mph in 6th or just something like that.

I got 14 mpg on my last tank full but it was the first tank with the supercharger. I got 25.7 on my 900 mile trip when I bought the car.

Both, so far on every tank and the difference between the two is generally less than 0.3 mpg.

+1. I determine it both ways and there's only be one time thus far that the gauge has been more than .3mpg off. For the record, I'm almost at 11,000 miles.

7000 miles. 32 mpg high, 29 mpg average on highway @ 72 mph.
20 mpg average around town being good, 18 when I play around.
It has definitely gone up since I bought it. I had a hard time getting 18 mpg on the highway when it was around 3000 miles. I also started resetting the mpg computer more often before trips.

I reset my mpg every tank. I suggest that you try different gas stations. I normally get my gas at Sam's club and get 15 - 17 city and 19 ish freeway so far (500 miles on the car) I am still in break in so I am not letting it sit in 6th for extended periods of time.

Once I filled up my tank at Chevron rather than Sam's that tankful I got 8 city and 14ish freeway. Next tankful back at Sam's the number went back up. My mix is 60/40 freeway/city.

Also I've always understood that it isn't the speed as much as the rpms that will dictate the mpg.

Back in early July, my Wife and I took a 15 day 3956 mile road trip. We started from Central California, went thru Reno, up to Idaho, to Glacier National Park and down thru Montana, thru Wyoming and Yellowstone, to Rocky Mountain National Park to Denver, crossed the continental divide half a dozen times, back thru Utah, into Nevada thru Las Vegas and Home. We traveled from 350 ft above sea level to up over 14,000 ft and back down on this trip. We drove thru a LOT of open country and some fantastic mountain roads. We cruised a lot, rarely going below 65 and doing some more "spirited" driving a good ways ABOVE 65.
All in all we averaged just a couple ticks over 27mpg for the whole trip. I couldn't be happier with the kind of mileage these cars get. What a fantastic road trip.

Maybe the anoter reason people are getting good gas mpg is their break in? YES or NO ?
