me and my dad picked this car up for a full tank of gas in a bronco and it sat in our backyard for a couple of years, now we have convertibleized her and are looking to build a radical first car for me any ideas?

Have you extended the subframe to the back . You will have to provide added structure under the floor pans.

I own an NCE (National Coach Engineering) conversion (one of 380 that were produced between 79 - 81). The converted car weighs in at about 300 lbs more AFTER the conversion because of added support.
Let there be no mistake that these conversions require numerous modifications, simply chopping off the roof structure will ruin the body integrity. Approximately 85% of the body structure is in the roof, hence without a roof (or underfloor frame), your floor pans provide about 15% of the structural integrity ! Primarily, and most importantly, a full frame structure is required. Typically this is accomplished by extending the sub-frame back to the axel wells to provide a rigid structure. I have seen other "home made" conversions that actually looked pretty good, some of which, the original roof was redesigned into a removable hardtop. If you do it right plan on spending a few bucks. There are now aftermarket sub-frame extensions available to decrease body flex, not sure if they would be adequate for a convertible support. You have, what could be a very nice little project with some imagination. I wish you the best of luck. Please dont hesitate to contact me if you need any information about my covertible that might be beneficial to you. 79camaro@austin.rr.com

Not to be mean, IMO a 2nd gen convertable looks horrible. I would give you a hard top for free to put it on lol.

I recommend a full body polish work and then the paint works. if you need Auto Repair Service Centers i fond some shops that may help you. Goodluck
