my camaro is my first manual car so this might be a stupid question but ive found that often times when i pull out into an intersection or anywhere starting in first gear, a sign pops up in the message window between the speedometer and the tac saying 1 to 4 shift and then i find the shifter wont allow me to go into 2nd gear but instead it bounces into 4th. i think its really annoying, does anyone know wat the purpose of this is or if theres a way to shut it off?

It is called skip-shift. It has been on the Camaro's since the 4th gens.

It is their to help avoid the gas guzzler tax.

Their should be an easy mod to delete it and should be relatively cheap.

the mod is $12 on ebay. search "camaro skip shift".

Install can be done in 10 mins including lifting the car. Search this site for "skip shift"

Or if you don't want to put a mod on it just accelerate more while staying in 1st and it will go away and allow you to shift to second. Or another thing you can do when you see the message is go ahead and throw it in 4th real quick and immediatley shift into 3rd.... I did both ways depending on my mood when I first got the car, but now I have my shifting to the point where I don't even see anymore. Good luck

If you ever get the car tuned the tuner can get rid of it. With the eliminator the light still comes on. My tuner set the coolant temp parameter at 300 degrees so I gave my eliminator to a neighbor.

Shift at 20mph and you won't ever hit it...

What if you don't want to shift at 20mph. For 12 bucks, I'll shift when I want.

Yeah, there was no gas guzzler tax issue with 29mpg.

I have the skip shift eliminator on the car. Put it on when my wife was getting annoyed having to shift to 4th and I didn't want her bogging down the engine all the time to and from soccer practice and the grocery store.

Was never a problem for me, I like the sound of the engine and shift at 3000-3500rpm everywhere...

stupid to have it in the first place!..i'll bet it can be aggravating if you own the 8!..pain in the a**!..car gets up to 25 m.p.g on the highway!..what gas guzzler

It has LED headlights and wheel weights blacked out with Plasti Dip. It's Baller.
