Any of you guys in SE Michigan that got tinted want to recommend a good shop? I've traditionally gone with Ameristar in Taylor, on Telegraph, but haven't been too keen on the condition in which I recive my car back... e.g. once had a large scratch on my roof from their "complimentary" wash, muddy boot prints on my seats, dried runoff all over my door panels. I care about this car like I have no other in my past, all of which I've had tinted, so want to find a place that will treat it right. Any suggestions?

i have 20% all around with a 6 inch 5% on front windshield... its looks great... i had 5% on my last car and got pulled over... my camaro has been pulled over for tints also with 20%.. with 20% you will get pulled over. specially on a dark day.. but most cops don't really care. but trust me they do notice

On all of my cars since I was 16 here in MI, I've had some form of tint. I'm 27 now and have always had 35% on the fronts with varying levels of 5% - 20% on rears. Only been pulled over twice... both times in cars that had limo on the rears and 35% on front on overcast days. No issues so far with both daily drivers over past three years both of which have 20% on rears and 35% on front... so in my experience, it really depends on the combination of film darkness, weather, and how bored the police are when they see you. Probably going to do similar combo on my camaro as my dailys.

I'v got 30% sides and back. I was stopped by a cop last year but just a warning. I see a lot of cars tinted in MI.

I was pulled over once for cutting through a parking lot (f*** you very much West Bloomfield Police, I was NOT cutting through a parking lot) but I had an Altima at the time with 35% all around, and he gave me a warning but no actual ticket for the tints. Living in TX now, where tints are not only allowed but a necessity to live.

FYI - I went with Notrious Tintz in Livonia. Very quality job. It's a privately owned custom shop where the tinters are the owners so they take pride in their work and do a great job - no 16 year old kids doing the tint-work messing up your interior, etc. I got it done yesterday and had a great experience. Nothing damaged inside, no muddy boot prints, no scratches in my paint (don't ask), no hair/dust under the film, no bubbles, no run-off all over my interior door panels.
I still need to give it a few days before it's completely cured, but those are my initial impressions. Very reasonable price as well. |

Really I think the factory tinting on the front windows is fine. The craziest thing I've ever seen was tinting halfway down the front windshield, however that was the carribbean island of St. Maarten. I can see the need for that there though.
