M6 Owners..Where does you clutch engage/disengage
Wanted to see at what point eveyones clutch engages/disengages to see what would be considered normal in relation to pedal position.
I would say mine is consistently engages/disengages at the upper 1/3 area of pedal travel. I have about 2,200 miles so far. **edited: Never had mine stay on the floor and not return to its normal position and have not noticed any burning smell from the clutch. I would say I have a more spirited driving style but do not go to the track and don't do any hard launches where I drop the clutch. Shifting mostly between 4k & 5k. I just posted elsewhere on this but mine just did "dreaded clutch malfunction" yesterday.... got a sinking feeling. I dunno if it does it on the v6 models though.....

I Don't really pay too much attention to details I engage and disengaged the clutch by the sound and feel of what my car makes.

If all the way down is 3/3 and all the way released is 0/3 is say mine engages while driving at about 1/3

love. my. car.

It's in the upper 1/3 for me too. My problem is that I can't seem to get used to not pushing it down all the way because I drove a truck for 10 years where the friction point was in the bottom 50% so you pretty much had to push it all the way down to ensure a smooth shift. Maybe one day I'll get used to it, but I'm still rolling back quite a bit on hills because of this even if I try to release the clutch quickly! Not the car's fault, but still I wish I could get used to not depressing the pedal all the way!

I'd say within 1/3 of the distance. However, pushing it all the way my shifts feel much smoother (more notably second to third). I don't know if it's because there is that slight amount of time for the synchronizers or what, but it feels better.

Just to be specific I do push the clutch pedal all the way down when I shift. When I meant it never went to the floor I should have said it never stayed on the floor as in the pedal would not return to its normal position.
Others have had this problem usually caused by the pressure plate being loose. My apologies for the the confusion there. I believe pushing the pedal all the way to the floor is the correct way and that is how if have done it with all my vehicles. |

My clutch catches some where in the top 1/3 sometimes it catches 1/2 way on a hill it catches at the very top sometimes lower if it feels like it. It does not catch consistently in the same location. Hills are the worst it will catch right near the top it is very irritating. When I brought it to the dealer I was told it is working in normal range....but of course it is why would it have a problem when the mechanics are testing it......

Sounds like it has air in it. Remind them there is a procedure in the service manual to bleed the hydraulics.
A hydraulic clutch should always engage at the exact same spot unless there is air in the system. Most that have had their's bled properly comment that it feels perfect again, not engaging too high or low, and it should be consistent. A solid line of fluid should have equal movement force every time. Acting up on hills sounds like the fluid has boiled from heat, and with all the air down there in the slave and line is very suseptible to cause problems again when heat is added. I'd get it bled. That will get the clutch engaging in the right part of the stroke, then take it easy on hills. Don't ride the clutch out, let it out swiftly. |

My engagement point is pretty much in the middle of the clutch travel. It is very consistent.

My stock clutch engaged at the top 1/3 area. The after market (now in the car) engages around the bottom 2/3. Just my preference, but I like the clutch to engage lower than near the top of the pedal stroke.
