db levels in NH???
I just got my Flowmaster AT's in the mail and shot across the st to the local Midas dealer. He said he could/would install them but was concerned with a possible db level on aftermarket exhaust's and being able to get an inspection or even getting metered by a local law enforcemant agent with fines reaching $1500.00. Anyone have any issues yet? It's not like I'm driving a hopped up rice rocket with a potato shooter hanging off the back trying to get into the next FASTER AND FURIOUSERER.

I've heard they are cracking down a bit on loud exhausts on all vehicles (bikes and cars) so it's a risk you have to decide if you want to take. You can thank all the Harley's with straight pipes revving all the time for that.

usually, exhaust systems are sold with a stamp that says "50 States Emissions Legal"

there is nothing specific stating decibel levels for NH autos. Motorcycles are 106db. It's up to the Officer and judge to decide if the exhaust is LOUD.
There is a provision on straight pipes, and another on cutouts. the law is pretty vague.. here it is.. from the NH RMV: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/...266/266-59.htm TITLE XXI MOTOR VEHICLES CHAPTER 266 EQUIPMENT OF VEHICLES Miscellaneous Section 266:59 266:59 Muffler; Prevention of Noise. – I. Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler as defined in RSA 259:66, in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise, and no person shall use a muffler cutout, bypass or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a way. II. The engine and power mechanism of every motor vehicle shall be so equipped and adjusted as to prevent the escape of excessive fumes, smoke, flame, gas, oil or fuel residue. III. [Repealed.] IV. No person shall operate a motor vehicle with a straight pipe exhaust system; ""straight pipe exhaust system'' means any straight- through exhaust system that does not contain baffles or otherwise does not meet the definition of muffler in RSA 259:66. Any person who violates the provisions of this paragraph shall be guilty of a violation and shall be fined not less than $100 for a first offense, not less than $250 for a second offense in a calendar year, and not less than $500 for a third or subsequent offense in a calendar year. |

I know your in New Hampshire but in Massachusetts the law states "any modification to factory exhaust system" is illegal. Do we enforce it??? only when we really want to find a reason to stop someone

i was at Lou's custom exhaust Friday and they refused to sell me a Magnaflow Comp system because it's a muffler delete type and is meant for "race" applications only. |

If it has the 50 state legal for road use certificate your fine. Federal laws for this trumps local in DOT matters.

I actually went to MIDAS it's convienently across the street to look at my car today. Other than the concern of loud db levels from exhausts they stated that NH law (they printed something off to show me) that any car with "aftermarket" exhaust would be unable to pass state inspection. So they were skeptical about cutting my pipes and welding on the axle backs for that reason. BUT they did reccomend me purchasing a set of crossover pipes and coming back in where they would install the complete pipes and mufflers so when I get and inpection I can just rebolt on the old system for inpection purposes, plus the new pipes will give me better perfomance/ gas mileage. So they are ordered and on their way!

I have 3" Flowmasters cat-back on my 98.
It is definitely louder than stock. 2 different Chevy (and hate to say Ford) dealers have inspected it and never mentioned noise. I have been pulled over a few times for no front plate and the officer never mentioned the mufflers. I would put them on. When I find something I like for BMBLBE, it will be louder than stock.

Each State has a different law for altering exhaust. Like i said in an earlier post, Massachusetts Law states "any alteration to factory exhausts is Illegal"
