Any surfers? What do you do with your key?

My last car i made a duplicate from home depot that would only unlock the door, so i could just take it in the water with me and it wouldnt matter if it got wet. The camaro has a weird key that im pretty sure home depot couldnt clone, and I really dont want to ruin one of my original keys. Just curious what you guys are doing with it while your in the water and solo.

in theory, you could take apart your 2nd fob (or get a 3rd one and do it), and just take the metal key part out... drill a little hole in the back of the key (if there isn't one there already from the swivel) for a key ring if you need to...

I'm not sure if there is a "door only" key available. or, if you have onstar, just leave your keys locked inside, and call them when you are done and ask them to unlock

You mean water is as bad for a cell phone as it is for a key?

Plastic ziploc bag will do the trick. Put your keys in there and zip it up tight and then put them in your boardshorts. I also believe they have boardshorts that have "dry bags" which will keep your valuables dry and is attached to the shorts.

Yeh not really trying to damage the 2 existing keys. I tried using the drypacks once before and it was to bulky and i didnt like it under my wetsuit pushing into my back the whole time.

Onstar would be a option if i could carry my cellphone to make a call. Hiding the key around my car in a box sounds like a bad idea. Alot of the beaches here I surf are really crowded and im sure people would see me going around my car hiding a box considering i surf a few times a week usually. I would hate to walk out and have some punk run off with my key box. I just want to copy my key without the chip, is that really to hard to ask from gm :( I did find this and it made me laugh Imagine always having a rock on the side of my car, lol.

Does your glovebox lock? I got a key with my G8 that will unlock the door and the glovebox (grooves look nothing like the flip key that goes in the ignition). Maybe you were supposed to get one and the dealership just forgot to give it to you or lost it.

You should inquire at the parts desk for a door key, I bet one exists.
