It would help those reading this to know the "background" of us and the coverages we have. 18 years old, first sports car, 2 speeding tickets, and 50/100k coverages is not:

(me)
42 years old,
5th sports car,
no accidents or violations (in like 15 years),
married 13 years,
own a house,
with a garage,
in a low-crime area,
with 300/500k liability,
100k property damage,
250/500k supplementary uninsured/underinsured motorist,
and 250 deductibles with full glass

2RS/SS Camaro quoted preliminarily by Geico (not yet in their system) at $383 every 6 months. They used car value of $36,050 for now. I could probably insure the car for $250 every 6 months by dropping coverages to minimums and jacking the deductibles. We have to compare apples to apples...

Just ran it through progressive. They quoted me at $2367 for 6 months. What a load of crap. That's almost 5k a year.

Run a Corvette through Geico. It won't be more than that. Or run a Challenger SRT through Geico. Let us know the difference if you don't mind...

Ran it through Geico, much better as far as I can tell. A 2009 Corvette Coupe runs me about $975/6 months. Thats with 50/100k liability, 20k property liability, 500 collision and comp deductible. I'm 22 with one accident 3 years ago. The big difference in prices was the collision coverage. It was roughly $1700/6 mo with progressive, and its $506/6 mo with Geico. Granted they are different vehicles, but I thought the vette would be more, not less.

Wow, suprising.

I have my Subaru right now through Geico at about 250 a month.

If I go to progressive, I can put the 2010 Camaro and my 1990 Geo on for 254 a month.

trm, thanks...you are right about weighing the cost of a lower deductible vs a higher, a little bit of simple math and anyone should be able to figure out which is a better deal. Great point

kdbolt...$2600 for 6 months? Pray tell, what exactly did you pick for coverage and how is your driving record/age? I'm really curious as that sounds extraordinarily high!

See the attached image. I am 22 with a single accident on my record just under three years ago. Notice the collision is sky high in this quote.

Edit: I dropped my accident and re-ran the quote. The collision dropped $400, but my premium is still $1723/6mo

Good god...that is disgusting :( I think I need another beer after seeing that! I have that accident I mentioned above that falls off in March, I'll have to run a quote of my own just to see but I just turned 30 back in October so the age thing should be the only difference.

On a side note, I would seriously consider upping your liability coverage for medical. $50,000 per person and $100g's total isn't going to go very far in a serious accident and you do NOT want to get stuck with paying someone else's huge medical bill. I carry $100g's per person and $300g's total and am even considering upping that. One of the mechanics where I work got hit on his motorcycle (Harley) one morning turning off the service road to work. The guy behind him driving a Ford FX4 didn't notice him slowing down and slammed in to him from behind doing about 50-55MPH...the first day at the hospital maxed out the guy's insurance! That was when I raised my liability up from the state min of $10g/$20g...

I'll let you know what I get quoted tomorrow, thanks for posting that screenshot (OUCH!).

I got a brand new stang when I turned 16 and the insurance was sooo high. So we put my "main car" that I drive is my grandmas '92 Paseo and that my grandma drives the stang, but I was still covered since I was put down that I also drive all the cars occasionally. Just a tip for all those younger camaro buyers like me

Did mine for fun, and it came to about $1,00 for 6-months for me and my wife with the Trailblazer and the SS. That's a bit high, but my wife is <25 and without the greatest record!

Someone asked about the GT 500. I am 60 years old and my 2009 GT 500 is $389 for six months. Coverage is 100/300 with 1,000,000 liability umbrella. No accidents or tickets last 25 years.

My 2007 Lincoln MKX is $379 for six months, did not look up my truck yet. I am curious what they will charge me for the SS but I am thinking it will be around $375.

I think State Farm is on average lower than Geico or Progresive.

Eep! :( I hope I luck out with my insurance company. If I end up paying out of my ears for insurance I might have to reconsider buying this Camaro for a few years. 21 yrs old with 1 time getting rearended and one ticket. I'm getting the V6 tho so that should help me out.
