Changing mine this weekend: switching to Amsoil 5w-30 with a synthetic media filter and installing the by-pass filter soon.

Ok, here's one to tickle this crowd. I'll be the "test dummy" here.
![]() I changed my oil at 1008 miles. I did NOT reset the oil life moniter. We have a planned meet and greet in Charlotte on June 5th. We have not yet finalized any game plan as of yet however, a dyno day is on our agenda of possible things to do. I will make plans to do the dyno. I will make 2 pulls then do a reset of my oil life monitor and pull it again. If there is any "magic" to the reset we should be able to see it. ![]() No worries about changing the oil right away afterwards, for those that will (I'm sure) remind me to do it. I will just use my brain and change it at 6000 miles. Thats 5000 miles on an oil change no worries there. Not trying to be smart or anything, just that simple math is not difficult. ![]() The results will be posted at that time.

Changing my oil now at 1500 and I'm going with amsoil 5w30 and amsoil synthetic filter #ea050 it is a lil more expensive than the mobil1 but is far superior imo and has gm oil specs it is garanted 25,000 miles! So will go with oil change monitor prob after that my cost of materials were close to $100

You're still thinking of engines from the 70's and 80's, man. That myth doesn't hold water anymore for newer engines. If you follow the OLM as was designed for your car, you will be needing an oil change at around 9,000 to 12,000 miles. That's what is receommended by GM, and I would tend to listen to their PHd engineers than you. Following the OLM with a good quality synthetiic will make that engine last for a couple hundred thousand miles...sludge free. |

Okay, I'm convinced. The oil comes out tomorrow of my '11 SS2 @ just over 600 miles, but I've been reading labels like crazy and nowhere do I see that new GF-5 or the Delos sticker on oil anywhere. Does GM require some kind of special flavor Mobil 1?

AMSOIL is NOT approved by GM <yet I hope> for 2011. I'm an AMSOIL dealer and even their website says no recommendation. Need GF-5 and Delos according to GM. I'm sure Exxon paid big bucks for that Mobil 1 sticker under my hood.
