GM AFTERMARKET EXHAUST AND INTAKE
Ok so its that time for intake and exhaust upgrade, there are tons of exhaust and intakes for the camaro V6 but my question is how much horsepower increase does the GM "airbox" ( intake ) and the exhaust give ? only reason I am considering GM parts if for warranty issues, and please I dont need any comments on the warranty and what it covers and blah blah, i just want to know how much horsepower each mod will give if anyone has that info please share. Thanks

ehhh...exhaust isn't going to do much for you performance wise. Might have a decent gain in the 5,000 to 5,500 rpm range, but won't get much on top. A few horses. Won't be too noticeable on the street.
That CAI which I'm not even sure is available, and looks nothing more than a chromed stock one, but with smooth intake tube would probably yield some positive results. The blackwing intake (which is just a smooth tube like that) has proved to make gains on the dyno. Again with more gains being in the mid range rpms, but maybe only another 5 to 8 HP on top.

imo, look at aftermarket... don't go GM. Believe me, GM sold our vehicles handicapped.. they won't sell you bolt-ons without handicaps either. =p
All they have to offer is that their products won't void the warranty =D I'd highly suggest you dive into the AEM world... it's much more glorious =D

Well, I really wish I could go around finding you a bunch of links to peoples dyno results and dyno sheets, but I just really don't have the time..and I'm too lazy to do that right now lol.
But just trust me about the exhaust. This V6 section is chalked full of info on exhaust...and I've seen just about all of it! ( I created the exhaust sticky section) You don't really do exhaust for performance on this car...you do it for sound b/c your not going to get much in the way of performance with exhaust. But in addition to a few horses, you should gain 1 or 2 MPGs on the highway if you can keep your foot out of it. Now doing aftermarket headers will definitely get you some gains, but thats another story. Also tons of data floating around about CAIs in this section too, but if you want something sorta quick to look at, view the Jannetty CAI testing sticky thread at the top of the V6 area. There were 4 CAIs tested there that did well, and I'm thinking in addition to the spreadsheet, there are dyno sheets on page 2 or 3 of that thread. But the GM performance CAI would probably be more like using the blackwing tube. Just do a quick search on blackwing in the V6 area and you will find some info there.

Well I was one of the lucky few to get the group buy price for the new short ram Injen intake, i was just wondering on the GM intake horse power increase out of curiosity, and as far as exhaust goes I know the GM aftermarket exhaust sucks compared to the aftermarket ones but like i said I just wanted to know if anyone had actual numbers on these parts |

Hey Leonardo,
the gm system is an axel back made by Borla and is in the exhaust sticky I believe. Vid has a silver car with red stripes. It sounds a bit quiet but some who have it like it alot. You have to really go back in this section and find some threads but I think there are some comments on it. As far as power KMPrenger is right about the power, as far as any dyno numbers that have come up we are getting only 3-4 peak hp but the bulk is in the 5000-6000 rpm area where our v6 has a big dip in power. From all dyno's I have seen for cai's, headers or exhaust they all seem to increase power over the curve and at the dip keeps it a smooth accending line and no dip, hence some of the big numbers you hear about. Catbacks will give you 9 or so but teamed up with a cai or headers about 6-7. Cai's by themselves and by JRE'S testing are 10-14 peak,I think your new ingen was at 12 per Ingen.Teamed with other mods Unknown for sure, other then Ingen long tube got about 8 with an axel back on Scrming's car. As far as that gm intake only the tube is different then stock. One Dyno place back in VA I believe started to test v6 parts but hasn't been on here in awhile. You will have to really search but he tested a blackwing which is just a tube and claims 16 hp, but other threads one said gained nothing at all.Again search as I remember reading them but don't recall which thread had the imfo. |

Go aftermarket, keep the stock CAI in case(they aren't hard to swap) and the only parts an axleback deletes the warranty on should be the stock mufflers.
