Automatic wipers use a sensor connected to the glass of the windshield. It's a black disk about 1" in diameter and it's usually next to the point where the rearview mirror is glued on so the wiring is close by.

I doubt the camaro has it because it would have been spotted by now.

Also, I think all GM cars with DRLS made now have auto headlights.

One thing I was wondering, will the Camaro get electrochromic (self dimming) rearview mirrors or heated side view mirrors? I forget...

Yes. On certain models you get:

* Inside auto-dimming rearview mirror
* Body-color power-adjustable heated mirrors (auto dimming on driver side)

I don't like all this automatic stuff either. If I want something on, I can turn the knob myself.

Well, there is an on spot and an off part on the headlights. So you don't have to use the auto.

I take it a 2SS/RS will have these then?

Are you talking about Speed Sensitive or Rain Sensing Wipers? These are two separate functions. Both are nice, but I doubt the Camaro will have the Rain Sensing feature.

Looking at the knob in the Camaro, it could work like the Cobalt, or we might get lucky and leaving it in Off mode will keep it off when restarting, in which case turning on the DLRs will be a matter of turning the knob one setting to the right. I hope they do it the second way.
it will more than likely default to auto on account of safety reasons. if someone forgets to turn them on & gets in a wreck because they "weren't visible enough," then with a slick lawyer, GM would be on the hook.

that don't work either. i've tried pushing, holding, etc & the only solution i've gotten from GM techs is to replace the Body Control Module & the whole light switch assembly with a newer one with the 'off' feature :( at first, i just removed the bulbs, but now i run purple bulbs to match my turn signals

We are talking rain sensing wipers, and have concluded that it will probably not have it even on 2LT/2SS, which is fine by me, one less thing that can break!

That was how it worked in my 2000 S10 Xtreme.

In my 2002 Camaro I had to pull a plug behind the radio to disable the DRL's and it also disabled the auto-on headlights.

On my 08 Silverado you can turn off all the auto function by turning to the stop and let it bounce back. Works good.

My friend,

You could put in a parts request for a salvage yard on the Interweb for the switch and bcm from a crashed, totaled truck with the newer parts.

I'll help you put them in if you want. Phone or Interweb consultation.

This picture confirms that Rainsense will be at least available on the 2SS - this is the production intent 2SS from the Indy bash over the summer, and if you look at the rear view mirror, just to the right of that is black plastic covering an assembly mounted directly on the windshield. That is the Rainsense sensor device. I know this for a fact because my Mom's 2007 Buick Lucerne has it and the sensor is in the exact spot and looks exactly like this:
