Unhappy

on the 2000-2005 Monte/Impala (Monty is a 04) have the auto on headlights and they have NO way to disable them the knob on the dash you pull out to turn them on and off in the daytime has NO AUTO mode. when you cover or uncover the sensor dome it takes about 10-30 seconds for them to go on and off. the last car I had that had auto lights was my 94 Thunderbird, it had a dial that you turned with your thumb that would turn the auto lights on or off and how long you had the interior lights stay on if you lifted the outside door handle when the car was locked. On Monty if i want to shut off the Auto lights i have to pull the fuse that disables the DRL as well. but since I live in a state that has inspections I would have to put the fuse back in before i have him re inspected. if it wasn't for the fact that that particular fuse is hard to get to, I would pull it, but as annoying as the Auto lights are, I DO like having them on my car .

That is the Rainsense sensor device. I know this for a fact because my Mom's 2007 Buick Lucerne has it and the sensor is in the exact spot and looks exactly like this:

Cool, thanks for sharing this! Can anyone find a pic of 2LT from this angle or any angle that will show this? I looked but did not find anything, but will try again.

^But....and this is what gets me. No one ever mentioned it. On top of that, it is nowhere to be found in the manuals....no ordering guides, etc.

^ Maybe it was on the pre-pro car and they are not going to include it on production cars.

They don't say anything so they have the option of not including it. Kinda like the Z28.

Push the dome override 4 times in 5 secs, it will ding, lights will go off. ASSUMING the switch works. The newer assembly requires a newer BCM (and maybe a harness??) My truck is a 2000 Z71, and it works every time!

Is there any mention of the auto headlights?

ALL GM cars and trucks built today that have auto headlights have a way to turn them off, READ YOUR OWNER"S MANUAL!. it is in there...My SKY and HHR both have ways to turn them off, also the DRL's can be turned off... Only thing is they resort back to auto when you shut off the car.

PS. If you tint your windshield it will cause the lights to come one sooner and go off later. If you start your car in a shady area such as under a carport the will the lights will probably be on and your guage lights will be dim. after you drive out into the daylight in about 30 or 40 seconds they should revert back to the normal daytime mode.

i tried pulling the relay & the fuse. both times, it turned my headlights on instead. it was GM's first truck with dedicated DRL lamps (as opposed to using the low-beams like in the 96-00) they apparently wanted to make sure some light was gonna be on. (i heard there were legal issues with people not turning on their lights at night because the lows were already on, and they ended up getting rear-ended)
