First of all I just want to say thanks for serving and stay safe. I would recommend a cat back exhaust, Long tube headers and a custom dyno tune by a very good shop. If you call Brandon at Maryland speed he can set you up with a great deal on a set of Kooks headers and high flow cats. He is a vendor on this site. I would check the vendor classifides for great deals on the cat back exhaust. The Long tube headers and custom dyno tune will make the car feel totally different and I mean that in a good way. The headers will also make the car sound very mean under throttle. The cat back exhaust is there for overall sound but there are no power gains from it. Everyone has their favorite sound so I really cant make a recommendation for a catback.

If you are looking for nice sound check youtube for videos of 5th Gens with Long Tube Headers and the muffler delete. It makes a very aggressive and almost evil sound.

Also put a CAI on the car and let it breathe a little. You will notice a little better performance, MPG's, and a throatier sound with the CAI.

I didn't want the car to be obnoxiously loud so I kept the stock mufflers but got the Dynatech Long Tubes, free flow cats, and a CAI. At idle and under normal driving conditions, the sound didn't get much louder but I believe its a much nicer sound. Under WOT its wicked.
Also, welcome home. What unit are you with? I was stationed at Fort Wainwright from 2006 to 2009 with 1/25th SBCT (formerly 172nd).

Listen to sound clips of all types of cat or axle backs so you know which you like best, it is all personal preference. Long Tubes would definitely be the next step after that. Maybe a tune. If you are interested in any of these parts or others feel free to either pm, or email is. (information in sig)

I would stick with stock exhaust and go with LT headers, and a tune. If you can... go with a cam package to really wake the beast.

Thank you for your service!
