Hey MWS, do you grow them or resell them? Sounds like you do both...
how many LBS do you deal with in a season? just curious. Be careful with that 90 to 0 stopping.. you better do it with nothing but wide open space around! You may be the first person to LOOP a pedderized LPE car if you're not careful... I don't think the steel liner would spin. The steel should expand more than the aluminum hat will. the real test will be whether the aluminum hat will crack from the heat/expansion if I am thinking of how things will heat up correctly. The heat will be applied onto the steel liner.. the liner should heat up quicker than the aluminum hat will. (I think, anyway). |

![]() On the 90 to zero I have set up to do the runs on a local airport runway so we should not have any problems. It helps when you get to 90 in a few seconds. ![]() The braking will be a slow controled Pump in and out of the brakes to give them time to transfer the heat and keep them from getting too hot. I will see if I can remember to take an infared therm. with me to see how hot we get them. I am not going to try to take them to failure just want to make sure they are safe.

Gotta love a good customer..![]() be sure to 'bed' that little emerg brake shoe just like the big ones before you go crazy with the full out and 1/2 out stops. Otherwise you'll skid in to an airplane when you try the big test. LOL Did RB give you a test plan? you may want to ask them what they recommend, speeds to try, and # of repetitions they would want to ensure a successful test. They should know best. What did RB do to fasten the steel liner to the hub? just curious.. I bet they look fantastic! if they are anything like the fronts, I want them NOW! Thanks for doing the test BTW... |

Is it an emergency brake or a parking brake?
Please contact the brake company to find out what they have as a speed rating for the rear hand brake. Three inspectors to ten with no appreciable improvement in food safety or quality? That is OBSCENE and great argument for LESS government. |

MWS,
If it is just a parking brake - and I am of the opinion that I truly believe everything Pete tells me - he hasn't tried to sell me a bridge yet, but if he does I'm sure it will be a nice one and I'll buy it sight unseen. ![]() for Parking brake tests I would check with RB to see how extreme they want to go for testing before you do anything. Ask them to replace the rotors after the test and the ebrake/pbrake shoes if you and they agree you are going to do any speed stops with the ebrake/pbrake handle, and they show any kind of wear or damage. the rotors are expensive - not sure about the ebrake shoes, but they should pay for them if there are speed tests involved. I wouldn't recommend doing any kind of speed tests from 90 - 0, or 50 - 0, unless RB is going to replace the rear ebrake shoes and give you new rotors. The ebrake/pbrake shoes are going to get eaten on your tests if there is any kind of high speed involved. they were pretty small and looked like a soft pad compound when I checked them out. they might stop you once or twice from speed, but they'll get smoked and possibility exists pads may disintegrate, or lots of miles taken off them so they no longer work for you after. CYA before you start MWS.. |

OK guys, I am posting up some pictures of the prototype rear Racing Brake two piece rotors. You are going to have to pardon the crappy phone pics.
The weight savings is amazing, as are the good looks, and performance. The rear rotor as many of you know has an integral drum built into to it for the parking brake. In order to get the weight savings Racing Brake had to figure out a way to make the center hat out of aluminum. This brings on another challenge as it must also serve as a emergency brake in case of failure. Their solution was to insert a steel liner. I know the hand brake is listed only as a parking brake, however how many times has someone forgot to release one a driven a half a block before realizing it? I can also attest to the fact that stops from 40, then 50 then 60 results in crispy little parking brake shoes. The rotor design however was bullet proof, and performed perfectly. The one issue that reared its head was a clearance problem with the back dust shield biting into the outside of the parking brake drum. The factory rotor is necked down for clearance, but this piece being made of aluminum may have a strength issue if turned down to clear. They are going to try to get it sized down to test integrity, if they deem it not safe they will advise the removal of the shield. The Corvettes have a similar problem they have to remove them. Plus side is removal will probably result in even better cooling for the brakes. In any case I think the official release is in the very near future, and we will all love the rotor.

![]() The shoes are crispy critters after their abuse, but we had to sacrifice the cute little things in the process. ![]() They also reached an outside the parking brake drum temp. of 475 degrees. I will bet their is an engineer at GM having a fit somewhere having a heart attack on reading this.
