I am close to 340-350 I figure. I love all the v8 stuff in these threads. If you want a V8 get it, if you want V6 get it, if you want a smart car get it. Get what makes you happy as you are the one who makes the payments and has to drive the car! As far as all the muscle car crap, yes the v8 is a muscle car and I would call the v6 a "hustle" car, but the Camaro was not designed as such and neither was the Mustang, they came out with 6 cyl engines first and were light, sporty fun to drive pony cars and aimed at younger people.I think mustang in the first year sold something like 450,000!! The v8's came a a little later as the muscle car wars really got going.
The more I drive my v6 the more I like it and was the best choice for the Cali traffic I drive in where I can't even use 350 hp let alone 450, and 312 or 350 etc is more then enough for the street as we don't race here anyway. If you race and always in pursuit for more power then get the ss as that is what it's designed for, that and big ego's, I know, 28 years in v8 Camros!! For me I can save $16000 over my normal 12 year car lifepsan just in gas/higher initial cost alone and use for more important things, like a turbo if I feel the itch!

Again to all get what you want as only you count, none of us here really matter a $^&**! in the end anyway, and if it's a v6 don't worry about the v8 people, most are cool and really don't care what you buy just like 99% of everyone else on the road!!

Are you still perusing these forums with your wealth of gross misinformation?

Your first mistake was trying to pass off how much you claim to know about 5 liter Mustangs. Because you don't.

1) I drag raced 5 liter Stangs from 1982-1995 (all sticks, 5 different model years, stock/modded) and an 87 wouldn't come close to pulling a low 14 stock.

(and don't try the 'you don't know how to drive' line, 13 years of test/tune drag racing along with an x class trophy when a friend pressed me to test my consistency says otherwise)

2) Even if we were naive enough to believe you (I do not) Motor Trend ALREADY turned a 14.2 in a genuinely bone stock 2010 v6 Camaro. So your point is moot.

Do everyone here at C5 a favor. Either leave, get honest, or become knowledgeable already ...

Haters gonna hate no matter what
i have an automatic V8 and i get shit for that all the time
my friend has the V6 and i was impressed when i drove it. 0-60 its actually very quick after 60 thats where the v8 really shines but still i absolutely would have been happy with a v6. plus the bright side to the v6 is my friend gets 25 mpg and i only get 15

Going back to the original thread...V6's of today are awesome engines. I am not old enough to remember some of the anemic 4 and 6 cylinder engines of the 70's and 80's that couldn't even do 45mph up hill. I still went with the 8 cylinder, but I would drive a 6 cyl. My 165 horse 4 cylinder in my Mercury feels so weak compared to 3.8L in the Monte Carlo I used to own, I love those engines...BULLET PROOF. GM by and large builds good engines...These V6 Vs V8 threads are BS.

Yeah, gotta love V8 owners....two more cylinders....more is better right? Who sezs? The seventh fastest production car in the world......7. Jaguar XJ220: 217 mph, 0-60 in 3.8 secs. Twin Turbo V6 Engine with 542 hp. V8 Camaro's or Stangs would not want to race this V6....they'd loose. Yeah, so what if it costs more than an average person makes in a lifetime?...there is always a faster car. Speed costs money. This Chevy V6 was well engineered and is a very fast and affordable 6 cylinder...to make fun of it shows ignorance. I like the challenge of doing more with less and my V6 with some mods will impress...well, at least those who really appreciate technology and cheer the underdog.

Wanted to get a V8 but I think I'm going with a V6.

While I love to have the extra cylinders and HPs, and the price difference/fuel cost is not a problem, I simply have no use for the V8's power.

I don't do track or drag race, and obviously I'm not gonna try to go 150mph+ on the highway. I would rather spend the extra car, insurance, and gas money on modding the V6 a bit, but that's just me.

Just one other note for going V6. There has been only one problem that I have heard about on the V6 LLT and that was only due to a debris that was introduced during production that caused a crank bearing failure. This is not the case for the V8s as I have read of several accounts of different problems. I am putting alot of torque and horsepower through this engine running a 100 shot of nitrous in it and I have had no issues with the engine or trani or anything else for that matter.

Cool

Wow, another v6 vs V8 thread! Well I have owned a 75 Camaro with a monster V8 and Muncie 4 speed and all that. All Camaros were great ( even the iron duke 4cylinder equipped third gens had their panache, albeit sad)

I love my 2LT as it's the best daily driver one could want with all the style, quality and performance. I have a manual 6 speed to enjoy all those gears with an awesome 312 HP it is indeed nothing to shirk at! It's a muscle car in every way, but it's like comparing a small block of the old days against a big block of thoses early muscle cars days of the 60's and seventies. Do remember that if you got a small block back then and not the big block, you were "settling" then as well so let's all PIPE down on the ragging on the V6 equipped most V8 camaros of the past were waaaay under 300 HP! Some V8's were in the 150 HP club WITH V8's!

The reality is that it's all about torque. That's what turns the wheels round and that is what you feel at the seat of your pants. The V6 fifth gen Camaro has lots of torque but the V8 has Simply gobs of it, so like another poster just said it's like the V6 makes your jaw drop, the V8 makes you wet your pants....now what do you want to drive daily?

Used 75 Camaro = $3500
Rolling restoration over 10 years = $5000
$5 of gas burned in 10 seconds = Priceless!
