I've been away for a couple of days. I just wanted to post some of my impressions on the 3 inch exhaust for those of you considering it. I have not had it on the dyno yet because of my work schedule. Tim was nice enough to stay late and and install the exhaust for me.
Well with the 3 inch exhaust it is very loud. The sound is very deep and mean. Everyone that has heard it thinks it sounds awesome. The only problem is that with the whipple, cam, and headers, if I step on it you can hear me from a mile away. Forget trying to leave your neighborhood quietly. I have an appointment on Thursday to have an extra pair of kooks resonators installed. I am also considering a helmholtz pipe to eliminate drone between 1600-2000 rpm. If that isn't enough I will be adding a pypes M-80 race muffler just after the cat. All these resonators are a straight through design which will keep a straight 3 inch pipe all the way to the rear. I will try to get to the dyno by the end of the week. I have put about 500 miles on the car since picking it up. First this car has way more power than the car has traction. If I step on it in any gear, I spin the tires hard. If I step on it in 1st or 2nd gear, the back end fishtails pretty hard until I back off or shift. I could easily get into trouble with this much power. I am still getting used to the changes. I think the very next thing the car needs is more traction. I would recommend anyone else installing the whipple, drive their car with just the supercharger before deciding they need more power. I was considering more upgrades but I am more than happy for now. I think I'll just enjoy the car now until the weather gets cold. |

Still running stock Pzero`s? Yeah, I agree, get used to that power before adding more.

I am still running the stock tires. I will use them until I wear them out. I need to save up for wider wheels. Even then, I'll break the tires loose. GMRULZ, I'll give you a call when I get the chance. Making up family time, after spending so much time surfing these threads while my car was being modded. |

I`m running the magnaflows and they are pretty quiet. Maybe you should come hear mine, I don`t have a cam though which will make it louder, but a lot of people complain the magnaflows are too quiet incl the 3 inch like I have. They are actually quieter at WOT than my stock mufflers were w/ my ARH headers and catted x-pipe. At idle it had a much deeper tone now though. I understand completely about the family time, I have a wife and 2 kids. finding modding and surfing time is a little hard to fit in sometimes..

Who doesn't love the Kooks 3" exhaust!! Looks like something I wrote last year. With 2 12" resonators we killed about 50% of the drone. Now you can control it better with the pedal. |

I was told the resonators would bring it down quite a bit. If you look at the stop the drone/helmholtz pipe thread, one of the people posting results there is local to me. I was told that they have done this on both automatic and manual camaros in different configurations, and have been able to eliminate the drone completely. I will post the results Thursday after they do the work. If it works, I should have a full 3 inch exhaust with no drone and quiet at cruise.

After you get your wheels get a Nitto 555R in a 315/35R20 and use this as your everyday tire. Just make sure your new wheels are 10.5-11.5" wide. Get some cheap C6 Zo6 replica front wheels with true Zo6 offset and run a 305/45R18 in a Mickey Thompson or Nitto NT505R for the track and you will be good.

I had the exhaust work done yesterday and am very happy with the results. I found a local shop in Lexington Park Maryland just outside Pax River, through the stop the drone/helmholtz style thread.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102075 For those of you with drone issues, I recommend you read this thread. There is a lot of useful information. You can PM Roger Ramjet and he can educate you. Rusty and his crew were great to work with. I had a set of Kooks resonators installed to bring the overall volume down. I also had a set of helmholtz pipes installed to eliminate a loud drone I picked up that seemed to center in between 1700-1800 rpm. Basically, the rpm band for cruising in 6th gear at 70-80 mph. The volume in the cabin is much lower, but the sound outside is still very aggressive. The entire cabin used to hum whenever the rpm was less than 2000. Now it is entirely gone in 1st through 5th. 6th is completely quiet except when accelerating uphill, but even then it is less than half the previous volume. Roger is confident that we can adjust the length of the tube to target the frequency. But to be honest, I was trying to make it drone. I normally would downshift in that situation. Here are some pictures that Roger provided. First is the entire exhaust assembly. Then a close up of the Helmholtz pipes and the resonators installed on the car. The helmholtz pipes are forward facing but they sit higher than the bottom of the headers or suspension. They are also braced at the ends. I'm not sure if that is clear in the pictures. The resonators required a little modification to match up with the x-pipe and fit inside the tunnel. |

If anyone is interested, I have the Kooks 2 1/2" high flow cats for sale. They were only used for the dyno testing. 3" cats and exhaust were installed before I picked it up. Those who did headers only, may want these. If you are considering headers, Brandon at Maryland Speed has said he will work out a deal for headers, without cats, if you pick these up. Anyone with a 2 1/2" cat-back exhaust could also use these.

That's the craziest exhaust I've seen! I like yours a lot better though

We were joking around that it looks like rocket tubes. Roger who did the work was an engineer for Boeing. He has decades of experience designing some of the tuning software we use. You can't argue with the results. It works. At least now, I really have a custom exhaust.
