One thought about 1/4 times. Off the line, the Camaro has a big power advantage over the 370z. However will the 275 section width be able to hold all that power. The 370z when equiped with 19" wheels will also come with 275 section width tires. This will give the 370z a better ratio of contact patch per pound of car. The added horsepower and especially the monster torque advantage of the Camaro off the line might not be able to be fully utilized. I still think that the Camaro will edge out the 370 in a strait line, but I think it will be very close. As far as going around a track, the 370 should have the advantage with two less seats, 600ish pound less weight to lug around. I will speak from experiance when I say that there is something I call percieved speed. There is something about being in a small car lower to the ground. This is an exageration, but imagine going around a track in a go-kart. Now go around the same track at the same speed in a full sized car and you will get a different experiance. The 370z might feel faster and might be more fun to drive fast, but time will tell who is really faster in different situations. I don't really feel that these cars should compete against each other because one is a 2 seater and one is a 4 seater, but I am sure that comparisons will come out as soon as the Camaro SS is available for testing.

i think really this would come down to tuning of the engines from the factory (tranny gear ratios torque converter etc.) because depending on how early/late the torque comes in for the 370 it might get beat near end but be by you at the far end... anyone know how high that v6 revvs? if it is close to the Camaro's V6 then we've got a race... on a road corse i think it'd be pretty close. entry to the corners would be crucial and whoever can accel first out of the corner has that race too... driver's race i'm guessing like most everyone else has said... i love the camaro and all but you gotta give props to Nissan for building some viable cars in the past... when you show up to the track be confident but don't be cocky... that is how you lose...

The 370Z is definitely on my list right along with the Camaro. They made all the right changes from the 350Z. Since I'm all about the mountain and canyon roads, so initially the Z makes a ton of sense. However, we've heard great things about the Camaro's handling in the early reviews and they say it feels smaller than it really is, so I expect it will handle the twisties just fine. The 370Z costs a bit more than the SS, and only has two seats, so any gains it has in size and handling are balanced by that. I look forward to driving both cards and buying one, the other, or something else on my list.

the 370z is a great car through and through. And with equal drivers the SS will win, but the Z is well capable of winning with a better driver and through the twisties should leave the SS behind.

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

will it leave the SS behind a few seconds on a Watkins Glen sized track? no. i don't think thatll happen. on the Ring in Germany most likely, but a second on Watkins Glen is like a min on the Ring so this would be a VERY close race... till we see some ring numbers no one can say...

This is a factor that should not be dismissed. We have a "budget supercar" rolling off the lines at Oshawa. I see a few Nissan owners being humbled by the aftermath of some pretty SERIOUS engineering happening at GM powertrain division. Enjoy the battles, my friends.

Again, this is why the "stock vs. stock" debate has more merit than the "I can boost my <whatever> car to beat your car!"
Just fill it up with premium gas from the dealership, line it up, and see what happens. Thank You.

Well hey, with the Mustang's antiquated mechanicals and the Challenger rivaling the USS Nimitz in size and weight, we really do need something to be a worthy competitor. If you ask me, the real rival for the V6 guys will be the Genesis Coupe and the SS guys will have the Z. Bring it on, Korea and Japan. I respect your offerings and am happy they truly put up a fight with our Camaro. It will keep GM on its toes.

Camaro SS 9.2 lbs/hp
370Z 9.9 lbs/hp Pretty close, not sure who has a gearing advantage. I think it would be a drivers race. Motor Trend got 0-60 in 4.7 and 1/4 mile in 13.3 @105 in the 370Z. I think the Camaro would edge it out slightly with good drivers. In the twisties the Nissan has the advantage. |

And remember that the camaro got a .97g skidpad during prototype testing. Not sure on the production trim but I don't see it being that much less, if any. So don't see down the Camaro's handling yet. - Xanthos

I hope the Camaro can hold its own against any car in the handling department, but I'm confident it will be superior compared to the other muscle cars. |
