Same here in Tennessee.. You can't just call in and report a person and the officer come out and ticket them. It has to be seen by the officer unless you are involved in some type of wreck and leave the scene.

A civilian......LMAO you had nothing to worry about.

Does he even know what technically is reckless driving?

If soemone passes you, uses there signal and passes in a passing Zone.
then ,even if you had a loud exhuast and startled him,it is a legal pass.

this is why civilian complaints are taken with a grain of Salt when it come to traffic.

OP, just pass as you see fit.

Johnny law scared you. just in case it was true.

He had ZERO authority. You should have shut the door on him.

So tired of civilian authorities . You were never in any danger of anything.
That is a lil rough man, sounds like the cop was respectful to her.

We HAVE to make contact..exactly like you said, we have absolutely no authority to issue a citation unless we observe or can observe a violation through state installed and certified traffic cameras. Either way, I work in FL and just as you and I know I cannot issue the citation, but if someone files a complaint I HAVE to at least make contact with the person...

All I say in a respectful manner is someone complained you were driving fast...I cannot issue a citation, this is just a respectful request to please slow down and keep yourself save in a residential area....done. Now if its a state road or I4 complaint, I am not knocking on any doors.

She could have slammed the door on his face, but why...he wasn't there to scare you if she asked troopers and THEIR state allows those complaints to result in a court appearance. The cop never said he could write a ticket..only have BOTH parties appear in court where she would win anyways...

This is unfortunate. Sounds like a bunch of "busy work" police officers could do without.

Funny how people are today. How about the many times people do it to you and get away with it.
He could not prove anything if he is making false accusations. The officer has to go on what you told him.

People can be such idiots. You have to pass them and even in my Cobalt people will speed up when you are trying to pass them. You have to go faster than they are going to "pass".
Other gripe is that too many people think passing lane is "pacing lane" and they get right next to someone in the ford lane and just doodle along at 55 instead of actually "passing" them and getting out of the way.

Sheesh.... That's all I can really say.

Hearsay evidence from an untrained civilian would most likely be thrown out in court.

Seems like some folks will live life as roadblocks in the highway of life (literally and figuratively).

Yes they do.. and then they come up to the adirandacks and drive like morons up here too.... We refer to them as CITIOTS, or CITY IDIOTS... They all look really cute when they're in the ditches and snowbanks up here, which is where most of em end up after they play that game with the wrong local....

However, any citizen can file a police report, then use the police report to swear out a warrant. The matter then ends up in court, but they have to proove you did it & it is your word against theirs unless they have video or witnesses. I have sworn out warrants for assault against folks it is basically the same thing except he would have claimed wreckless driving. This is per the officer who came to my door as well as several law enforcement officers I have spoken to.
