HELLO? McFLY!!??!??!

For 3 months now they've SEEN the fallacy of their initial estimates and SHOULD have done SOMETHING!!!! ANYTHING!!!!

For example:

Best case scenario - Get the SS parts suppliers on the phone and tell them to crank out more LS3/LS99 and T6060's, etc...

Worst Case Scenario - Get the Dealers on the phone and tell them how many V6 and How many V8 they will be allocated and when/how this will play out.

Either case would SURELY have been less of a catastrophe than the slow-motion-train-wreck we've seen concluding today.
That's what I'd like to hear myself...why didn't GM tell each dealer what they could order...V6 vs V8 out of their intial allocations!

Simple really and would have made this a lot easier...then you'd only be looking at a 4 week delay...

GM is going to build you the car you ordered, regardless of how much time it will take. As someone mentioned, the current 10,000 orders will be built in around 3 months. Oshawa is a VERY capable production facility.

So to everyone who ordered a V8, you will NOT be forced to take a V6. You will receive your Camaro SS.
Oshawa is capable of building 400-500 a day. That doesn't mean they will. 1st actual production month, now Mar 16- Apr 16, will be lucky to make 2500 total IMO. But, they should ramp up rather quickly after that I would think. There is no reason they can't make 5k a month after that. Keep in mind it appears first thing to happen is the "non-allocation" run of V6's for the dealers. There's month 1 and into month 2. I'm still confused as to why they would say they expect all pre-orders to be filled by October. I agree, they should be filled by August at the latest.

Why didn't GM release information up front to at least the dealers to say...of your allocations, you can order X number V6 and X number V8? Seems that would have been the best thing to do!

Second...if you have preorders, why not fill those orders first? I know GM wants the V6 out there but if you have sold orders...I mean they are sold!! Make this limited production run (3 quarters of 2009) simply for preorders! Then if things are left over produce what the marketing survey said. Don't tell the consumer what they want...they already to you what they want this year!

Finally...is there a possibility that V8 cars will nto get produced this year (all that have been ordered)? Also...what is meant by "limited". Does that mean if everyone wanted a V8 Camaro you couldn't buy one?
They said, if we read back far enough, they were gearing up for 50/50 production. We ASSUMED that they would do the intelligent thing and adjust that based on 80% of orders being V8, but there are reasons they almost in bankruptcy...

As far as filling pre-orders first, they basically are with a key exception, that being this first run of V6's so each dealer gets one (not against their allotment). How many dealerships are there? That equates to the entire first month and a half of production at best.

After that, then they'll attack the pre-orders as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't worry about the "limited" tag until I head different from Fbodfather.

Actually, you would think launching the L99 would be just as important as the new V6 since it is one of the first Chevy sports cars to offer AFM, maybe the first.

That's a pretty big deal!!!

GM, let's get those L99s out there!!!!!

I hope that turns out to be the case.
After speaking with the Sales Manager at my Dealership, he said that I was not only in the number one spot at that store, but I was the first person to pre order out of all 3 Chevy stores under the same owner.
And went on to say that no matter what store gets the first SS order allocation that my order would be submitted for it.

Hopefully he was not just BSing me on that...

Chevrolet has never said they will build V8 Camaros equal to V6. The plant does have the capacity to build boat loads of Camaros. The marketing behind the car however, is as a V6. That is what Chevrolet has said time and time again. I am sure it will be a great V6 car. We all have a pre-conceived notion that Camaro is an American Muscle Car. I've had two Camaros. A 1995 V6 and a 1997 30th Z28. I think V8 when I think Camaro. The Marketing Team is trying to sell this car world wide, which granted they are making money in other parts of the world. That is why it's important that this car be what it is. I don't agree but I wasn't asked. I hope that it will be a benefit for GM because my job depends on it. Sorry if I misunderstood your post.

We aren't being scammed or anything in this line of thinking. GM is trying to avoid closing its door with this new loan. We are all in the same boat and my order has been in since Oct.14th with a $1000 deposit. We may not ever know the reason for the delay....but you might think it is financial.

Each one of us came one line for our orders.....we knew GM was needing financial help. Did we forget about this news story in October?

If you cannot wait and need a new car buy something else for now. Those of us that wait will be justly rewarded with a cool Camaro (2SS/RS in my case). We all will have the best new cars on the market.....I think its funny that Chevy changed the HP to 426 one HP above the Challenger. Relax Folks!!

I was told by FBods team in SD there are around 3200 dealers vice the 4000 we all thought previously. They should be able to push those out in the first month.

After that, the IDL stated the dealer would get something off their list; they didn't say V6 only!!!! The dealers 2nd car could quite possibly be there priority #1 SS, who knows????

I know who hopes . . ME. because I'm my dealers #1 SS

Thanks...Rick Conti and I have done this for Corvette for years. Scotty has been devoted to Camaro from day one. Maybe Rick gave him a few pointers too! LOL

Folks,

Just a reminder that the following "caveat" has been in place since DAY 1 of the Early Order Program:

"Please keep your estimated production guide number in mind and on hand when submitting orders. Placement of an order does not guarantee production of said order, and exceeding a guide number will not generate additional production. Only bona fide sold customer orders with complete information (including customer’s name and full address) will be accepted by General Motors. Consumers making inquiries on the status of their orders will be instructed that the dealer has received an estimated production guide number, and will be directed back to their dealer for further information on their order. It is very important that you manage customer expectations consistent with your production guide numbers and consistent with the uncertainties in the production process. "

After today's fiasco, these statements carry a little more weight, don't they!!

(I don't like it anymore than the rest of you)

Not quite true.......

ChevyLaunch has, and still does, advertise a near 50/50 production rate!
