that's weird, mine flashed a message on the DIC: Speed limited to 118mph. Maybe it was just a slap on the wrist and I couldve kept going or something...

They are all governed the v6 and the v8 the ss is limited to 160 and the v6 is 155 it's not to do with tires or anything like that I'm pretty sure it's to do with engineering and areo dynamics plus gm limits all cars to what they think is safe there is a way to lift it tho manual and auto when u hit 155mph the car will limit fuel injection and air flow. No
Matter how far u push the pedal down it wount go anyfaster. ( I know this because me and a freind hit 170 in a c5 and then it was limited from there and iv asked the dealer to ) ungoverned the v6 hit at least 170 in that thread I posted earlyer but then the front cracked

Or, is there a different tune between the LS and LT V6's ? (The LS will never have the P-Zeros from the factory, but the LT's may have them)
The computers speed limiter is tuned according to the speed rating of the tires you have from the factory. Its a computer, you can change variables.

Wrong, you cant do 160mph in a car with tires rated for 120mph. Hit one rock and your in for a wild ride.

True but they asked how the car is governed and somone said it insent it is and yes the tires make more sense than aerodynamics but I still can't see a camaro doing over 180 I feel like the bodys just not made to handle that it's to bulky

Tire speed rating doesn't have anything to do with hitting rocks. It has to due with temperature of the tires and holding together under the combo of heat, air pressure, rotation speed, tire construction, etc. Over-worked tires CAN and DO just come apart, even without hitting any kind of object.

Correct, which is why it's not a good idea to go over what a tire is rated to do. Otherwise

If they had the v6 limited to 118, I would take it back immediately. My 2001 lumina with a ready to die 3.1 liter has hit 125 several times.

Some of you guys don't have a clue. Manufacturers have been doing this since the '90s.
Why would they NOT put a governor on it if the tires aren't rated for higher speeds?
if it's got S rated tires it's gonna be limited to that. etc. etc.

It's not just the ignorance of some people, that can be fixed with education, it's that some are..........oh nevermind.

I think you are wrong. It has everything to do with factory tire rating. P-Zeros are "Z" rated. Those crappy BF Goodrich tires are not.

312 HP is enough to overcome wind resistance to 155mph, and if not, then they wouldn't need a governor anyway, would they?

LS tires: T rating = max 118 mph
SS/RS tires: Z rating = over 149 mph

So why on earth would anyone drive an LS over 118 mph, even if they could ??

swap out the tires for Z rated ones and remove the limiter and your good to go. everything else is the same as the other V6 models. now with that said just bc you can doesn't mean you should.....

it is the tire rateing but at a point it is just what they want their car to do.
My dad has a jaguar xkr witch is a supercharged rocket from hell its on perrieli Z rated raceing preformance tires and its limited to 185 it can surely do 200 tho. At some point it has to do with areo dynamics
