the dealer needs to treat you better, but outside of that, they're well within GM corporate guidelines on rebuilding the motor.

It may be a 'rebuilt' motor, but it's still going to be your original motor, with new parts. Unless you don't trust the mechanics at the dealership, the motor will be good as new. They won't be using 'remanufactured' parts or 'refurbished' parts. They will still be new parts, but your original block (and pistons too, likely). I think everybody needs to realize that a 'remanufactured' motor, is not a substandard part. They don't take the cranks out back of the shop and build them up with jbweld and machine them. they're new parts, and likely in better specs than the originals. I can understand some frustration with having this major work done already, but as long as the work is done in a professional manner, you should be good to go. I'm not sure why you think you would get a whole brand new motor, anyway. the best you would likely get is a shortblock. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the rest of your motor, it's just the rods/bearings/crank. If you have some way to prove that there is more extensive damage, you should bring this up to the dealer.

Don't get me wrong, I would be livid if this happened to my car, but you've got to be a little more realistic... your car also hasn't been in the shop long enough to qualify for lemon laws yet, either, unless your state is different than most.

Let them fix it up for you, and if it makes you feel better, ask for them to extend the powertrain warranty.

Does anybody know if the caddys with this motor are having trouble. I know people with traverses that are. This really sucks. It's starting to sound like the old days.

I wouldn't be happy with a rebuilt motor....

I would go as high up as I could and if that wouldn't I would talk to a Lawyer....

WTH is going on?!
Honestly, id be pissed if my engine was blown, but what im really pissed about is how you guys are getting treated when this shit happens to you. Like all of us, the warranty repair is just a nightmare. DOnt go through the same shit as Camarodriver did, show em the thread. Get them to fully lemon your car or a brand new engine. Either those two or nothing and seek full legal attention. Im soo tired of hearing about this. Its an absolute piss off. No car should have a blown engine at that low of kms, same with Camarodriver. Its something that if i was a company, would be embarrassed about and would hope to fix asap so i cant look bad.
I really think you guys should post this problem on autoblog or mass media. V6 engines blowing up, especially multiple will definitly get the attention of the media, easily bring ingnegative media to GM.
I know, we all love GM and dont want to give them bad press. But at a certain point, with the quality of the car, and the crappy quality of customer service (On the dealerships hand and somewhat GMs) it really needs to be brought to attention. Not how you deal with customers. I dont care how small scale it seems, this problem can easily become a very LARGE scale problem quickly for GM
Best of luck man, keep us posted.
Sorry for misspelling or gramatical mistakes, doing some more school work

OMG! 2 motors out of 164,000! it's an epidemic! Come on people. I had the same engine in my CTS. It's a great engine, but even a great design fails once in a while. While everyone here would much rather have a new engine (or not have the problem at all) I'm sure the rebuild will be fine too. Just ask for an extended warranty since it's supposed to be as good as new.

Ive heard from a mechanic at dealership that the traverse's timing chains/belt are needing replacement around 40k miles. Saw a prior post saying the Camaro and traverse share the same power plant? If this is true something the v6 guys may need to check into it.

Camaro, CTS, Traverse and Acadia same engines. I heard about a few of these happening locally from dealer as a timing chain issue caused the failure. I have an Acadia and Camaro......No issues. Heck see if they are going to give you an over bore and some ported and polished heads while they are in there!

The warranty will protect you, and check your states Lemon Law requirements. It may state the number of days a dealer may have to fix your car, usually repeat problems and days added together for a particular number. So if you have the issue again they would almost be required to replace your car??

Bump. 2 cars total with this problem is not a trend. We just want this to be visible to help our fellow community members.

Hate to say it but everything is man made. Things break. Now to make the customer happy I would think they would of gotten you a new motor to get you back on the road faster.

They are probably going to have to send and engineer out to rebuild it. I mean do you really think techs at a dealer can rebuild an engine? Some dealers that do highend custom stuff yes but everyday dealer no way.
