I am so sorry that the license plate causes you so much grief.

There are people around that you can talk to you to help you with your problems here.

And it is just a car. A very nice one, that is a lot of fun to drive, but in the end it's a $35,000 car. (My truck cost more than my Camaro)

Personally, I'd like to see all the people on the forum complaining about the laws and the cops, and actually do something about it.
And you wounded why people don't like cops. They all got a law book up their.

They can either ignore it since it would be too much trouble turning around or they can turn around quickly and risk drawing the attention of the driver of the stolen car and catch back up then run the rear plate, but with a front plate they could get the number, call it in and be making the u-turn without drawing attention of the possible stolen vehicle driver. thus having a better chance of YOU getting your car back.
Just one case you would be glad you had a front plate on your car.
I detest front plates on the camaro too. But you got a good point there.

There are 3 reasons for front plates as far as the Government is concerned:
  1. We've always had them so we will always have to have them
  2. So that photo red light cameras and photo radar can identify you and send you a ticket.
  3. So that cops with radar guns have a flat metal surface to target with their guns because they work best that way, especially the new laser units.

It could if it was used in a kidnapping, hit and run accidents, drive by shootings...etc. Makes it easier for someone to see a tag number and report it, then it makes it easier for the cops to identify.

I dont want an excuse for law enforcement to pull me over, no hate, my brother is a cop and he recommends it to avoid a bored cop. I had my front plates installed by dealer, getting some vanity plates that look better than standard texas ones, not my plates, but example of what it looks like:

is the background I'm using, should look quite nice

I agree 100%
Here in Oregon we can choose from several different plate designs. This year for the States 150th anniversary they are issuing 40,000 retro plates that mimmic the 1961 Oregon license plates. Because I bought a IBM Camaro and these plates have a dark blue background I chose to go with them for the extra one-time $100 fee. I think they look totally cool on the car front and rear.

Why does there even need to be a front plate law? 99% of people could care less. The state can just issue 2 plates. When you buy a car the dealer usually just puts them on anyway. In our case we just say, "leave the front one off". Oh, it must already be that way because that's what I did. If I get a ticket (which I haven't even be given a second look in 15 months) I'll pay it and still leave it off. If the state is so desperate for revenue that they need a front plate on 100% of vehicles for red light cameras (of which there are none where I live), then they have bigger issues. Here in NY they'll just add another dollar to the $7 tax that is already on a pack of smokes. So, to the OP, it's your car. Screw the man!

Let me ask you something. Do you feel you have the right to break any law you feel that most people don't care about? What if the same 99% of the people comply with that law anyway because it is the law? Does that make it Ok for you to break it? There are many reasons states have front plate laws, and I guarentee you this it is not to use it to be able to gain revenue.
You and all the others on here that want to break the law and not put the plates on the front, go ahead. but don't start ragging the cops for stopping you and giving you a ticket for not having the plate on your car. YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW and just as with any other law the police have every right under that law to stop you and give you a ticket.
So quit your whinning and crying about it and grow up.. geesh

I hardly believe that although that is the excuse they may use. I would like to see you driving down the road, say 40 mph and they "stolen vehicle" traveling in the opposite direction at 40 mph, which is a closure rate of 80 mph mind you, and have you tell me what the 6 or 7 numbers/digits are of that vehicle and remember them long enough to call those numbers into the dispatcher to run them. You would be hard pressed to tell me you could read those plates. Try that at 140 mph closure rate on a 4 lane highway.

So, when the officer is breaking the law, who has the right to issue them a ticket for BREAKING THE LAW?? I'm not badmouthing cops. My wife works for the police dept. and I know a lot of officers and have even gone to parties with them. Let me tell you, I have seen them leave those parties as plastered as me and they were BREAKING THE LAW. They are human like everyone else and do stupid things and are not without fault and please don't portray them as such. I hear, even on this site, that one officer will write a ticket for this but another would not. What gives the officer the right to make his own rules and decide what law he/she will enforce?

They can be ticketed by any other officer just as well as anyone else can. In fact two off duty police officers were just fired and prosecuted for breaking some laws here in our county. Just as you said they are human and should be held to the same laws as the rest of us are. And as for some officers enforcing some laws while others ticket people for the same infraction, I say that in the case of misdemeanors a lot has to do with the officers judgment. Some are just not as strict as others are. But since the ones that do give the tickets are doing it legally you really have no argument with them doing their sworn duty to enforce the law. Right?
