I had the same question about the CAI. I looked at some of the lists on the Air Resource web site www.arb.ca.gov and didn't see them, but I didn't see anything for camaros either. I wonder how long ago it was updated.

More specifically I found this:

If you purchased your car new then you don't have to worry about Smog Tests for 6 years. If for some reason you get a random roadside check you can always put your stock one back on and go to a referee. I have not seen a roadside check for years(8+) and in 99% of traffic stops the officer will not open your hood to check for mods.

No CAIs are legal in this rubbish state unless it uses the carbon trap...

CARB

radz28 is correct.

An aftermarket airbox will never achieve EO status. We designed and engineered an improved, integrated carbon trap and tested it extensively. Still not acceptable. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the Camaro intake restriction occurs in the factory or sealed air box. The restriction in a sealed box is increased by 2" W.G. +.

Good resource for checking http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...es/amquery.php

Several Cold Air Intakes with EO's are listed here.

From what i've been told, it's cost prohibitive unless you're a company that sells A LOT of CAI's. I think it takes TENS of THOUSANDS of miles of testing to achieve one. I'm not sure how it works but I don't see how K&N, Injen, and Airrad, with their open top boxes, can get a CARB sticker and any of the others can't. Do companies that sell thousands of intakes for every car known to man get a rubber stamp from the EPA? I just don't see any of the above being any more ecologically friendly than any of the other open top CAI's.

Actually K&N is not carb legal at this time, they are still in the process. I was going for K&N myself when I found out they had no carb number so I went with AIRraid instead.

you live in Cali, that's how. I am pretty sure they aren't allowed to pop their hood ever, or look at their car the wrong way etc.
