So enjoy all those wild mods, but make sure you can remove them and get it back to stock when it comes time to sell it in 40 years. Your kids will thank you for it! Maybe!
thank you captain obvious...but if I wanted an investment for my kids, I wouldn't have bought a car (or at least one that I was planning on driving).

My own little story. Ordered a 2002 SS convertible that I totally babied and while I DID drive the car, I drove about 5K miles per year (she was stored due to Colorado winters and gravel on the roads) and had a DD. I thought my car probably was one-of-a-kind but wasn’t entirely certain. Visually she was almost totally stock – I did !cags, stb, power antenna (hadn’t gotten around to calipers yet ) – but she was packed with SLP content including that awesome CME. Dave H signed her hood in Vegas 2002. I have a file on her about 6 inches thick with all kinds of emails, documents, receipts, etc.

Eight years to the day after I ordered her, a driver rear-ended me on the freeway at 50mph while I was stopped in traffic, causing a four car pileup. My baby was obviously totaled. My insurance company was able to verify that she was a one-of-a-kind and they couldn’t find a similar comparable to base her value on. It was obvious that the car was in pristine condition and the appraiser was impressed with my photo album, my receipts, my files, and that I worked on her myself.

So with 37,000 miles and at 7 ½ years old, I was given back my entire purchase price on my baby. I was extremely devastated to lose her, but it was great not to get raped by my insurance. So if you do have a pretty rare car (and I’m not sure that the 5th gens really qualify with the production numbers) and the condition warrants it, it is POSSIBLE for your car to retain some value. Maybe…

I’ve been driving an automatic 4 cylinder for the last seven months. (The only horsepower or stick I've driven since then was a 2011 GT500 about a month ago - wow!) I miss my car terribly and it is impossible to replace her – but guess who’s getting a new convertible from THR soon? (Can’t wait for a 6-speed and some horsepower throwin’ me back in my seat!)

I'll pass this car on when I pass away so if it loses value when my kids/grandkids go to sell it (I hope they wouldn't) sucks to be them .

I agree that’s why we drive all our cars. I will be doing the Super Chevy show in 2 weeks competing against shrink wrapped trailer queen first gens; I will let you all know how I do.

Very sorry to hear that.

That said you have a very special case here. If you did try to sell that car you would never get what you got from insurance, even at an auction.
