So be it. I would highly recommended the advantages of pissing off a friend or two.

"A Friend in need is a Friend in Deed" comes to mind..........and in time a real friend, even one that reacts first in anger being reminded of their responsibilties and who heeds the advice will appreciate having been saved from the consquences of a prefectly avoidable life altering event.

Comedian Jerry Clower may have said it best.........."What this world needs in more real love"............ today is a great day to begin. Help save a friend!
Now your taking what I wrote out of context. I love people like you.... Think they know it all, and feel the need to preach to people. Maybe i'm mistaken and instead of priesthood, you should consider politics?

I said (and I know what I said, because after all, I said it), that some folks here must have a set of brass balls to sit here and knock somebody for something that we all most likely did at some point in our lives. Meaning that back in the day, when we were all younger and crazier, no responsibilities, we had fun, and most likely a large portion of us drank alcohol and drove. I'll admit it.. I have. Then you go into a friend in need blah blah blah.. Let me tell you something else that you don't know about me, and obviously what you don't know is alot. I drive limo part time, and work security part time, as well as work for new york state govt. I'm a paid designated driver. On top of that, all, and I do mean ALL of my friends don't hessitate to call me if they have a few too many and need a ride home at any time any day, as they have driven for me when I drank. I believe you of all people here, really need to lighten up the most. Have a nice day!

Drinking and driving was just part of going out. If you woke up in your own bed, and your car was decently parked with no damage, then you did a good job. If you woke up someplace strange, then you had some figuring out to do! If you woke up in jail, then you really messed up! Our idea of a designated driver was the one who drank beer the whole night instead of us who did the shots. Two towns away from where I grew up, was a really insane bar that was a good time everytime. The local police in that town would pull us over if we were weaving, and as soon as they discovered we were from a different town, they'd give us back our id's and tell us to have a safe trip home.. My how things have changed.. I don't condone it, but man you've gotta have a brass set of balls to sit here and knock folks for something that you yourself most likely did at some point in your life. Just remember, ANYBODY can get 1 DWI, or DUI, only takes a few drinks with dinner, or a couple of casual one's after work on a friday. It's a mistake and humans make mistakes, part of which makes us humans. When a person gets more than 1.. well, then there's a problem. Some of you folks need to lighten up..
I'm not saying go out, get wasted and drive, but the above reply raises some good points. The legal limit used to be a lot higher. So, back when it was 0.15, you could drive around at 0.14 and be "sober." Here in OH, it is now 0.08, so now if you drive at 0.14 you're "drunk." And the whole "buzzed driving is drunk driving" is just a load of crap. It's not drunk driving by the legal definition unless you're over the legal limit. Can you be buzzed and still be under the legal limit? I think so.

Again, I'm not advocating drunk driving, but I find it hard to believe everyone always has a DD or calls a cab. These clowns driving around on their cell phones 24/7 are just as bad

Nothing taking out of context.................and friend, I've looked and can find nothing remorseful or shameful in the definition of friendship. You do not need to agree with it..............

Besides drinking driving in our earlier years....How many people remember carrying your shotguns and rifles into school, and then shooting them in the gym or wrestling room for practice. WE DID, (1980's) and that has got to be a mind blower for some of the younger folks on here who can't even have a water pistol in their car!! I'm sure that some of the post's above are just stating that times have really changed.

Here's a interesting tid bit.........
Quote:
Compared with drivers who have not consumed alcohol, drivers with BACs of .15 or above are 380 times more likely to be involved in a single-vehicle fatal crash than a non-drinking driver. (Source: Zador, P.L. Alcohol related relative risk of fatal driver injuries in relation to driver age and sex. Journal of Studies on Alcohol 52(4):302-310, 1991.) Download and share our 2007 report, Stopping Hardcore Drunk Driving: Offenders' Perspective on Deterrence.
.........should also make one wonder how many innocent passengers whether they've consumed or not are killed along with the mix of these drunken drivers.

Time tables with standing, its also well known fact among us older folks here that stupidity and death have always been permanent conditions, that never change.

Hey I grew up in that same era where drinking and driving was the norm. I can remember back to the early 60s riding (no seat belt, front seat) with my mom while she was racing my dad, they were both drunk, and mom's 58 Olds beat dads 61 Cadillac. If my dad wasn't driving drunk, he probably was out on his boat, boating drunk. He came back from boating drunk one day, got in his cadillac and drunk drove it straight into Bellingham Bay going about 60. Another time, one of my dad's friends was driving drunk and hit a girl on a bicycle, killed her. The judge let him go saying his remorse was enough.
Yeah, times sure have changed... If we go somewhere I'm the dd. I can barely choke down one beer on a hot day but Dennis will make up for my lack.

And, some of us had something happen when we were young enough that we DIDN'T do the stuff you're saying everyone does.

Fortunately, not everyone's girlfriend gets killed when you're 17 years old. I'm glad you never had to go through that.

It is not, however, justification for Drunk Driving to sit and make excuses for it "because everyone does it". As I've said before, it would not make me sad at all to see ANY drunk driver plow into a tree and kill themselves before they kill someone else. The problem is that those drivers that do kill someone else usually survive without even breaking a bone or hurting themselves.
