Guess Ill through my 1 cents into the pot.
I got a v6 and I love it!! Didn't even test drive the v8 cuz to get a 2SS RS was just over my budget (I'm cheap) and the 1SS is just too bare bones with the only pluss being the bigger engine. If money were no object would I have gotten a SS? sure, it's a faster car and I'm sure even more fun than the v6 but I have to say I like the v6 front end better, it's cleaner and for me low end power isn't what makes me grin, it's speed so basically any car that can go over 130 puts a smile on my face. Which is pretty much any random car. Is the v6 a muscle car? Sure it is, gm says so and they made it. They felt it was good enough to wear the camaro badge and that's good enough for me. He'll I could care less what it's classified as. I call it one bad ass car that's better than my last car in every way possible ... Except for the shitty radio ![]() Only shit I've gotten about my car was from some random retard at the gas station telling me the only reason to buy a camaro is to get a stick, it looks like a mustang (really) and this is after he says he don't know much about cars and he's driving a rusted out sunfire that he said was fast, lol. Haters gonna hate, some people have inferiority complexes. Pulled into a gas station the other night right next to this guy in a silver challenger. I got out and said nice car. He looks at me and then looks at my car and just turns his head. I don't know if he thought I wad ****in with him or something, but the challenger is a very nice car. It's what I wanted before the camaro. I just smiled and kept walking. So if u have a v6, hold ur head up high. I know I do. I love this car. And if you wish you could of got a v8, suck it up and better luck next time. |

I have been gone for 3-4 days as my harddrive crashed. Is this thread still going? Any longer and you can classify it as a soap opera! I just hope it doesn't get picked up for another season
![]() I like my v6, I like my Z28, like the ss to. Still don't have the need for the ss in my kind of driving though and the v6 for the street is fast with the mods done. I dont care if it's a v6 or a v8 under the hood anymore its how the engine runs and that it is fun to drive that counts. If I need more bottom end torque that I do miss a bit I will turbo it and still get 30 mpg on the freeway. I got my car to fit my needs just like everyone else on the road and dont need to be put down for it either, but I will also never say this, IMO,is a muscle car in the classic sense because it's not and was never intended to be.GM, IMO made it to sell the car to those not wanting a v8 but quick and fun enough to sell and keep the name going as the sales will depend on the v6 not the v8, and with a auto and not a stick. It is like many have said, their daily driver. Either way GM hit a home run with these cars and I am happy to be able to injoy one of them!! |

V6's are NOT, by the classic defintion, muscle cars. Muscle cars are an American made car, 2 door, RWD, that is generally affordable to average buyers, with a V8. Same way a V10 Challenger no longer meets the criteria for a muscle car even thugh it's more powerful.

paraphrasing actually
![]() Plus from numerous books on classic muscle cars I have. Point is that even though current V6's in many ways out HP classic V8's they are still V6's Current V6's have plenty of HP, and then some, for daily driving needs. There is nothing wrong with them except in the eyes of some V8 owners.

Not all Muscle Cars are V8`s, what would you call a "87" Buick GNX or any of the Buick T-Types? Is a 82 Camaro Z28 a muscle car with that stump pulling 305 Cross Fire engine a muscle car? Must be, it has a V8 and the Z28 name.
Now if you`re referring to early 60`s & 70`s cars then yes, muscle cars of that era were V8`s. Horse power and torque determine if an engine is hi-performance, not if the engine is a straight, V or Boxster configuration. One question for the SS owners, after you have whipped all those Mustangs, Challengers and struck fear in the hearts of those who dare pull-up next to you at a stop light, how much of a financial return did you get with those wins or are you just going for the bragging rights and that temporary good feeling. |

I have never understood the mentality that the V6 isn't a "real" muscle car, considering it can outperform Camaros of old that had V8s. Wasn't the whole point of the definition of "It has a V8" actually just trying to say "it has power?" So if you can make more power with a smaller engine today - well, isn't the point of all of it the performance?
But I don't sweat it. I personally prefer and can afford the SS so I got it. But I admit I have less cash to play around with now, and if you would rather have that cash, or just want the look of the Camaro but don't need the 400 horses, then that is your personal choice. Let's face it: in the real world, to the average person, 300 hp is plenty. I don't hate on any version of my favorite car, and don't see why anyone else would.
