V6ers, why did you tune?

why did you choose to tune it, and was it worth it?

i just got JBA headers ( no CEL so far), SLP exhaust and AirRaid CAI ... i was told usually when you get headers you need a tune to maxumize the horsepower increase.. im currently looking for a tune as well... anyone know of a good one. ive only heard of the trifecta tune for the v6

Yes I have your same set up and just finished the Trifecta tune on mt car tonight, WOW is all I can say! Very much worth the money and Vince at Trifecta has proven to be a genius when it comes to the V6! Highly recommend the Trifecta tune for the Camaro.

There is only one tune available for the V6 right now which is from Trifecta Performance. Some will argue in favor of it but the reality is it is not a proven dyno tune it is more of a street tune in which means they send you a canned tune, you do some data logging and Vince tweaks your tune. If you want to maximize the performance of your car and mods you need to get it on a dyno and have a real dyno tune done but unfortunately there is not one available for the V6 yet.

Vince is more than willing to do a dyno tune, you just have to schedule it with him. If the shop is a Trifecta resellers then all the easier.

Sure

http://www.trifectaperformance.com/dealers.aspx

I didn't check to see if there is one in Georgia, but if you have a shop you like, they can become a dealer. The shop I use was very impressed with the tune on my car and are going to look into it.

I think its worth it. That ck engine light and not being able to pass emmsions here in NY was def worth it. Plus the car is a lot smoother upon acceleration

The CEL could be solved with just a set of O2 sensor simulators which costs about $100 instead of $600.

This is the first I have ever heard of this. If that is the case then why has no one posted dyno sheets with proven gains from his tune? Not to mention then you are going to be paying $600 for the software plus the cost of the dyno at whatever shop. That is going to make the tune cost in the ballpark of $1000!

You hit the nail on the head. I'm doing the dyno tune next weekend (hopefully), but that's because I'm installing turbos. Most probably think it isn't worth paying for dyno tuning with simple mods because of the expense. Even Vince says he can't get much more power out of it than he gets from a few good log files. However, he will do it if you want.

BTW, $600 is is when you want to keep the cable. You can get it cheaper by returning the cable after you tuning session.

What kind of turbos are you installing? Mind if I ask how much its costing? I would like to get one for mine but am gonna have to wait a bit since the price i'm hearing for a single installed and tuned is generally around $8000.

I've got a journal started (http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112151) you can subscribed to. The price you saw for the STS was a really highend system. You can get the kit for around $6000 I think (Jim505 or Z Madness wanna jump in here?). I'm doing a custom build. As of right now I've spent less than $4K on parts, but have a few more expensive pieces to go (Intercooler, Boost Controller, Meth Injection). You could probably go cheaper (i.e., weld instead of v-band; journal bearings, no meth.) and probably get everything for around $4.5K. I don't know how much the install is going to be, but it could be as much as $1.5K. All told, you should be able to do it for around $6K if you can find a shop that will work with your (or do the work yourself and save some more). Hope that helps.
