I was thinking the same thing ... if you see a cop ahead, roll down your windows.

But, I also heard that legal tint put on slightly tinted windows like our Camaros can be close enough to over the limit that a cop with nothing else to do CAN give you a ticket for the legal tint?

I have the 35% on mine and it looks pretty dark, especially at night?

And I have friends that are local cops and Hwy patrol .... some of the stories would make the hair on your neck stand up! For instance, pulls over a car for no tail lights ... shines spot light in mirror ... approaches car on passenger side to see driver with shotgun on lap looking in the side mirror! Turned out He was a felon that Police where looking for. So I do see their side on the too tinted windows, but to stake you out like that .... WOW!

Yes you did. You were operating a car with illegal tint.

It is not forced. If you had legal tint you would have no more issues with LEO's and your tint.

If you KNOW that you have anything illegal on your car as in dark tinted windows or fail to put the license plate on the front of your car because your state requires a front license plate or only allows a certain % for tint and you CHOOSE to ignore these laws, don't get upset if/when you get stopped for it. When you choose to ignore the laws that are there, just be prepared to pay the fine and move on or fix the violation.

Rolling your windows down will not prevent the officer from stopping you to check your windows either, because if you have tinted all your windows the same %, you can't roll down the quarter windows or the back glass.

Let’s not forget that big criminals are caught sometimes for violations of what some think are stupid laws to be enforcing. Just one example is an Oklahoma Trooper caught Timothy McVeigh for a registration violation

No sympathy here either....you're driving with illegal tint, you received a warning first time and still did nothing about it.

How much tint did you have on your windows and did you tint your windshield too?

Next time he pulls you over for it admit you were wrong and he is right then peel it in front of him and give him a dunkin donuts gift card for coffee. If you see him around town try to make some small talk and get on his good side. Get him talking about his 300.

Then black it out again, maybe once he feels you are not a threat he'll be less likely to ticket you.

*edit
Unless he is just one of those asshole cops, then just peel it and go legal. You will not win challenging the police.

This may sound funny, but LEO's are the good guys and your friends. You should respect them and the laws that are written to protect them from lowlifes that hide behind dark tint. I don't like the law either - cars look great blacked out. But it is for the protection of the good guys that the law was written. Want to get upset? Blame the bad guys for spoiling it for the rest of us - NOT THE COPS. They do not get paid enough to put up with the trash of society as it is. They should not be stressing over every traffic stop because they want to go home at the end of their shift and they cannot see in your car to know if you are armed or not. SOAPBOX OFF.

This reminds me of the cops in a small town in Oklahoma that I lived it. The cops would go to bars and mark peoples tires with chalk and then pull cars over that resembled the ones that they marked and when they checked the tires for the chalk marks they would pull the person out if it was a car they marked and hook them up for a DUI.

i used to have to deal with the exact same thing in michigan, now living in florida it is not an issue but I feel tint laws are kind of rediculous if you think about it. if a cop is worried about approaching a suspicious vehicle he does have a PA and can tell the driver to roll down the windows before approaching the vehicle. what i did to get around the tint issue was get used to rolling the windows down when moving especially if you see cops. as far as i know they cannot write you a ticket for a window if it is rolled all the way down. I do not think by law they can make you roll it up either to inspect the windows.

I don't have sympathy for people that break the law and get in trouble for it.

The cops that I refered to are the same ones that would make the passangers get out of the vehicle even if you had a designated driver so they could hook the passangers up with a public intox.
