I agree with what others are saying that you DID break the law, and a ticket is warranted... but if the LEO sincerely camped out for 4 hours waiting for you? That takes him from a good LEO (90% of them in my mind) to a dick cop. That's a long time to wait to give someone a ticket for window tint.

OP has no proof as to how long the cop was there. He is just speculating in order to infer a stalking/bad cop in the hopes you sympathize with him and glance over his illegal behavior.

I had a background check done on me when I switched jobs and it was all "OK" or "CLEAN" until one county's records in Iowa. It said "fail" and it looked like a huge deal because the section was listed "criminal records" so I go to the detailed report page and look up what made me fail, and lo-and-behold my ONE "driving without registration" citation I had a month after turning 18 was there. Just imagine how bad your record would look to a potential employer with several citations. I'd take the tint off, sorry, not worth screwing up a future background check.

Not to mention this could be a favorite speed trap spot for the cops.

They can if they've warned you before and told you to remove it.

Put a kill switch to the window fuse.

When you get pulled over, (with the windows down of course) switch off the fuse. Tell him your windows are broken but you did take the tint off. No way is he gonna waste time an possible money to try and check it out. He'd have to fix it to look at it.

The Iowa DMV will issue a waiver.

As for me, I won't tint anymore. Got tired of the fines here in the Hawkeye State.

Being pulled over al the time and showing a waiver was a pain.
Went to 2 diff eye doctors, they're not handing them out. Iowa state patrol is trying to get rid of tint exemptions.

Legal tint = 70%. That would be factory

20% on the fronts, 5% in the back, none on windshield.

you are right, I don't have any proof, but why else would he come after me and give me a tint ticket when there was clearly no possible way he could see my windows were tinted when I drove by?

I have been working there for over 5 years, been on the day shift and the night shift, and have never seen a cop sitting there before.

When you choose to ignore the laws that are there, just be prepared to pay the fine and move on or fix the violation.

Rolling your windows down will not prevent the officer from stopping you to check your windows either, because if you have tinted all your windows the same %, you can't roll down the quarter windows or the back glass.

Let’s not forget that big criminals are caught sometimes for violations of what some think are stupid laws to be enforcing. Just one example is an Oklahoma Trooper caught Timothy McVeigh for a registration violation
No limit on quarter windows or back glass. Which I really don't understand. it's not like the officer could see if there was someone in the back with a shotgun either .

He knew you had illegal tint and he knew when and where to find you. That's why he was there.

It is possible to see overly dark windows at night.

If your windows are up you can still tell its illegal tint at night if the limit is only 70% and your using 20%

20% you can barely see through at night where as 70% you can still see though.

so if you get in your car and roll the windows down and drive home like that, how can he honestly justify stopping you for tint? he cant measure the tint then either. most ordinances state operating the vehicle on a public roadway with the tint. id file a complaint for harassment with the department if he still wrote you another. has no evidence you still have the tint.

What I heard (a long time ago) was that you were not required to roll your window all the way down when a cop pulls you over, you just have to roll it down far enough to hand the guy your license and insurance. This might be why we have these laws.

I think you're confused. The OP had the windows up. Your instance mentions the windows are down.

The officer is not harassing anyone. He is writing legitimate tickets.

This thread should be moved out of this section. It has nothing to do with a 5th gen Camaro specific topic.
