rear gears

i have an l99 - wondering what everyone thinks would be the best gears for me. i take my camaro to the track 6-7 times/year, other than that, it is street driven (although it is not my dd).

when i say best gears - looking for whatever will help with my 1/4 mile times the most while being safe for the street. let me know what ya'll think. thanks!

Most everyone here is going to tell you 3.73's for better mileage and cruising rpm's. I'm not an expert, nor have I stayed at a Holiday Inn, but I just put 4.10's in my A6 last week and that MF'er is a rocket. On the highway you can pass cars with next to no throttle. Its at 2200 or 2250 at 70 and just over 2400 at 80. But it made the car evil. I didnt check the mileage bc I don't see the point. But you can do 4.10's and be fine. I'll let you know in the next couple weeks what I can pick up at the track. If you want the biggest bang for your buck do the 4.10's and never look back!

hmmmm fairly interesting....

I figured you would be having some interesting trips going from a stop light/stop sign when driving it around on the street.

maybe this is one of those times when first hand experiences tell more than a few number calculations.....

The 3.73s are what we recommend for street applications with the A6. By upgrading the factory 3.27s in the stock A6 Camaro SS to the 3.73s you will realize an equivalent torque gain of approximately 15% or 61.5 rear wheel lb.-ft. of torque. Cruising at 70MPH you would turn 2050 RPM. Its a great "best of both worlds" ratio for the A6.

that sounds pretty nice. should i be replacing /beefing up anything else while the gears are going in? can you pm me a price?

The Pfadt Street rear differential bushings are a nice upgrade to make while you have things ripped apart but there isn't really anything that has to be done. PM on the way.

The issues you have read about have been with a small number of 4.10 gear sets, the 3.73s have not had any issues whatsoever. PM on the way.

Usually 6-8 hours for someone who knows what they are doing. Its very involved.

yikes! swapping gear guts is a lot harder then swapping differential pumpkins. a pal and I swapped differentials in our 350zs in about 90 minutes.
