Aftermarket stereo system = new battery?

For those that have done 1000W or more aftermarket audio systems, did you get a new battery too or did you keep the stock battery?

Just wondering if I need to think about getting a new battery or not.

Any suggestions on the type of battery if you think it's needed?

Thanks.

Around 1kwrms, a new battery shouldn't be needed, but couple of things to consider, that can change that are....

How efficient of an amp(s) are you going to run. the more current hungry an amp is, the worse for the battery it is.

How often are you going to be at full tilt. If you are only going to be full blast for a moment or two, you're probably safe. If you plan on cranking all the time, a battery might be in order.

Also, although probably not an issue in a new car, what condition the battery is in already. A battery going bad is going to go a lot faster with a system on it. Someone posted the factory alternator is 150amp so probably not an issue. But a weak alternator isn't going to like a strong system either.

Im putting a 1500W RMS amp to run my subs and a 360W RMS to run my mids/highs and I will have an additional a battery to power the system. It's not that you need the battery, but you will get more out of your system if you have it. And in my experience, without the extra, if you are running the system high right before you park the car (for a lengthy time period) you do run a higher risk of the car not having enough power to start. It really all depends how you are going to be using your system.

Got it. Thanks guys.

BTW - I'm running 2 Alpine PDX amps - M6 (600W) and F4 (400W).
