H versus X exhaust pipes?

what exactly is the difference between an H pipe and an X pipe as far as sound and performance? Is that a great deal of difference?

This should get some good debate before it gets moved to the Exhaust Section

It varies from vehicle to vehicle. My last car gave bigger gains with an X-pipe, but this one has bigger gains with an H-pipe. And sound will of course vary. I researched mine before I bought the parts. YouTube clips, dyno sheets, asking around, etc.

And when I say vehicle to vehicle, I dont mean from one 2010 Camaro SS to another 2010 Camaro SS. I mean different models.

Can you quantify your example of bigger gains with a H pipe? Seeing that a catback offers little to nothing over the stock exhaust, 2-3whp is less than the variation from run to run.
