I have a 2010, and if I need my car to be unlocked...well.. I call them up and say "unlock my car" and they will do so. Done it once...I don't see the need for the app, it is just something that is the "craze" right now with the i-phone/droid market. All the info that the app has for the car is right in front of me when I drive...soo...no big deal that the app will not work with my 2010

just my two cents.

found this link directly from the OnStar website FAQ. its a new program and yes, i agree they should have incorporated the 2010 model. but technology changes every day and last years technology is already outdated. so yes, they have some catching up to do when it comes to our 2010 models. they started pushing 2011 back in june...so, yeah. just like with any vehicle, the first couple production models don't have all the bells and whistles that the following years will incorporate, or the support as they roll off the line...and thats a scientific fact!

When will the OnStar MyLink mobile app be available for previous model year vehicles?
The OnStar MyLink mobile app will be made available on most 2010 model year GM vehicles in 2011.

They gave you onstar for free to try it out... if you don't like it, cancel it. Subscribe again in a few months if you want to unlock your car from 2 miles away. If you really can't wait, buy a Viper (or similar) alarm that does the same, is slicker, and doesn't have the monthly fee.

Didn't you 2010ers get onstar free for a YEAR too? I only got it free for 6 months. How dare they?!!?
Yeah it's a screw job! THEY LIED AND FAILED TO PROVIDE EQUAL JUSTICE. YOU MUST WORK FOR THEM! Go bug something! Tester!

I know that onstar has been creeping around at night, all through the shrubs near my windows, too! That is it! I'M CALLING YOU OUT. I SAW YOU.

WOW, alot of angry 2010 Camaro owners. And it seems there are plenty of other older GM Model Owners upset too.

I still don't get why the hardware is the problem. If there are 9 versions of the OnStar Hardware, do the people that work at the OnStar Call center have 9 versions of software to work with each of the versions of OnStar Hardware? No probably not, sounds silly. The people at the call center use ONE APPLICATION which has been modified to work with ALL versions of the OnStar HARDWARE. My thought is if OnStar can unlock my car, see where it is, send emergency vehicles to me in case of an accident or even send me an e-mail monthly about my car (oil life, tire presure, etc), there there should be no reason an the iPhone/Droid app can't do it either.

It's possible that mobile devices have a new and complicated communication protocol that they couldn't get working bug-free in time for this launch.

OR, it's an intentional screw job and they're doing this on purpose to piss their customers off.

Your outlook on life probably dictates your opinion on this.

My outlook on life? Really, what exactly do you mean by that? I am not sure if I should feel like you are criticizing me or not. I just stated my opinion as a Software Engineer of 20 years. It has nothing to do with my outlook on LIFE.

I am sure that OnStar has their reasons. There are a lot of Software/Hardware guys out here, that using that excuse “OnStar Hardware is different” just doesn't work for us. Again, I go back to, if ONSTAR personnel can SEND and RECEIVE info from our 2010 and previous year OnStar equipped vehicles, I don't see how this can just be HARDWARE only issue. It's probably a combination of both.

On other thing, you have a 2011, so your outlook on life must be good....

At the end of the day it's just a toy. A neat toy to play with, but honestly how often will you use it? Once a month....MAYBE?

And if the FAQ says they're working on it for older cars, well, maybe they are. Most companies don't set out to tick off their customers, at least none that I'd give my money to.

Patience may not get you what you want, but it does keep your blood pressure down.

Relax and enjoy your Camaro.

From my understanding, you'll be able to lock/unlock & start your car from anywhere. (Hypothetically speaking; you catch a flight from Boston to Dallas, your car is parked in Boston airport. You get to Dallas and realized you didn't lock your car. You can lock the car from the app. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.)

You have to be within a certain distance for the key FOB to work. You can also check your fuel level, tire pressure and a few other things from the app.

I'm looking forward to having it. Hopefully it'll come out for 2010 models before May (OnStar trial ends), so I can figure out if having the app is a determining factor in keeping OnStar.
This is what i said a few post back...

Blackberry OnStar App, please. Thanks.
PS- Huh? No 2010 support. I must say some MBA educated morons' good idea. Sorry, just saying it like it is ya'll. Who comes up with these stupid business decisions. Oh, I forgot, recent graduates. iPhones, and no support for BlackBerry users, and no support for all the people that just bought "brand new" 2010 vehicles ;
All the GM Execs fell for this business case? Laughable. So, whos' in bed with who at Apple and OnStar?
That is a pretty arrogant statement...
Obviously most of us in this forum can afford a new car with onstar...
And a lot of us have a iPhone... I am a business person, I work in the field of Architecture and love my iPhone, it has worked much better than any other so called business phone, in fact almost every firm I can think of buys iPhone for management because it is the most user friendly, easy to use and highest level of support for our profession you can find. The iPhone is hardly a toy phone.
