My first scratch - Camaro meets shopping cart.

Thank you a-hole. Only took a month of ownership

I was out getting a costume for a halloween party tonight. Unfortunately the costume store is in a crappy part of town. I park in the lot, far away from others like usual. I was inside for about 45 minutes. The whole time I was nervous thinking about my car all by herself out there.

I emerge from the store and walk towards my car. I was relieved that she was still there and she looked fine. Then I noticed small wheels on the opposite side of her from underneath the car. I thought to myself, holy sh-t, that's a shopping cart and it's really close to my car! I rush over to the other side and there it is, a big red effin' shopping cart, sitting right up against my car flush.

I was so mad I thought I was gonna explode.

It was sitting right up against my front quarter, pressing on the CAMARO lettering. Luckily the cart was mostly red plastic, but the frame was metal. I removed the cart and dumped it on its side so it wouldn't roll anywhere and quickly examined my car. It's been about four days since I washed her and she had some dirt. It looked okay and I couldn't find anything wrong but she wasn't clean enough to be sure. It's cold out now so I've begun using the touchless washes and quickly took her over to one. After I emerged I looked her over again.

There was two tiny scuffs and one tiny scratch. Looks like a thin vertical line broken into three parts. Scuff - scratch - scuff. Very small and you can only see it if your face is less than a foot away from it. Looks like it should buff out but will require some elbow grease to get 'er done.

Holy frig am I mad. I always put my shopping carts away when I'm done with them. My car was alone out there, how'd the cart even get there! I almost feel like someone did it on purpose. Dammit. People just don't care and don't respect others property. Makes me furious.

Well I'm done. Rant over. Post is longer than I thought it would be.

I'm sure I got something I missed and been avoiding parking lots as much as I can!

At least you can buff that out, should vanish.

That's exactly why I park in the farthest away spot that is the highest in the parking lot. Cart's can not roll uphill.

However, shopping carts do have minds of their own and will seek out the best looking vehicle in the lot and gravitate towards it. They will hunt down your car.

Shopping carts are evil man!!!

Ouch feel your pain - a touchless car wash fell apart around me and a bolt fell on my faschia and chipped the paint. The car wash owner let me get my own estimates and paid me cash for the damage.
I make it my business (since I work in a big box type of mall with lots of shopping carts) to park ol' Trigger in a safe spot (see best parking spot ever thread), and watch out for those pesky carts rolling around. I've watched them meander across a parking lot, and like a compass finds north, they always seem to seek out the nice cars.

People suck. I couldn't believe it. I was absolutely mortified just seeing that shopping car right up against my car.

Sorry to hear that. I learned at least one valuable lesson with shopping carts. Never park downhill, against curbing that it can follow along.
Someone did that to me, and my new truck I bought in '79. That cart got launched into the next aisle!

Sorry man, that sucks. Try a corner of a microfibre cloth with a lil 3m adhesive cleaner(wont hurt your clearcoat)on it first. Dont rub too hard. If its just a transfer of plastic on it,this should remove it. This way you dont swirl up a spot trying to buff it. If it doesnt come off then Im afraid youll have to use a lil polish instead. If polish doesnt do the trick, youll have to start with some rubbing compound and then polish it out.
And my wife thinks im the only one who parks out in BFE!
