TINT PERCENTAGE POLL
I made my appointment for tints for Saturday morning, now I just have to decide what percentage to get. I am getting the non-metallic carbon fiber tints and I was going to do all the windows and the windshield and maybe a strip (the strip being the next level darker. Right now, our windows (including the windshield) come from the factory with 70% tint on them. If i put 50% tint over that I get 35%. If I put 35% over that I get 24.5%. So the question is which do I want to end up with, 35%, or 24.5%? I want them dark, but I want to be able to see out the rearview mirror at night as well. What do you guys think?
I am not sure what I am gonna do to the windshield. Probably either leave it at 70% and add a strip to bring the top part to 50%, or make it 50% and add a top stip to bring it to 35%, or just do the whole windshield 50% with no strip. The poll however is just for the side and rear windows, no windshield. So please fill out the poll for the window tints, and leave your opinions on the windshield as well. Thanks guys! |

Darker the better. Not sure how florida laws are but here in texas, there is no windshield tint allowed, you can go front windows at 30% and back as dark as you want. I have 30% on the front and 15% on the back.

Front tint anything below that little marker on the side of the windshield is illegal. If you tint the whole windshield, you are asking for trouble. My tint is 5%. I know, it's illegal, but it looks awesome.

Make sure you get 'non-metallic' tint. It cost more, but won't interfere with rear window built-in antenna. The Mustang whip antenna doesn't have this restriction, but it's ugly and cheap looking. ..the price we pay for a superior car.

I asked for the legal limit.
I wasn't in the mood to pay for something that would give the State of Texas one more way to take my money.

I spend too much time driving at night for tint. Plus, I'm a little past the age where "gangsta" is cool.

Heat reduction in the summer is why I tint. Tinting makes a huge difference in the 100+ degree heat in the Texas sun.

Sun and heat are the main reasons to get tint, well it was for me. I have 5% on the back three, 35% on the two front windows and 70% on the front windshield. The little bit of reduction on the front is really nice and at night it helps with on coming traffic that likes to use those bright lights.
I have had police officers stop and chat while looking at the car and not one of them had even mentioned anything about the front windshield looking darker than normal.

I did 50% all around including the entire windshield. Black interior with little windows doesn't allow for alot of light to enter the car anyway.

I think 15% is the best option for dark during the day and still good visibility at night. 5% and 10% are just too dark at night.

The tint laws in Illinois are 35% all around or 50% up front if your factory tint is darker than 35% in the rear. I went with Formula One Pinnacle 35 all around and put Formula One UVshield 75 on the whole windshield.
The windshield is not legal, but you can not even tell it's there. I tinted the windshield with such a light tint for purely heat blocking reasons. It blocks 99.9% of the UV Rays and 21% of Solar Energy. I have zero visability problems and everything is legal except the windshield, which you can't even tell is tinted, so I doubt a cop would ever put a light meter on it. In my opinion, I would never go darker than what I did. I am not found of the limo tint look.

Tint laws in Florida are 28% for front windshields and 20% for rear.
I just realized how confusing this thread is. Everyone is listing their tint percentages but I don't know if that is the percentage tint they put on (so you ahve to multiply by .7 because all camaro windows are tinnted 70% from factory) or if that is the final tint percentage.... I am not really worried about legal or illegal. 24.5 is close enough to 28% that I should be able to get away with it |
