Super charger and cam questions
Planing mods for my 2ss M6 that I will have within a few more months Big question about blowers and cam... My goal is to have a super charged and cammed car but the mods will come in one at a time. First will be headers and tires and get used to driving, then I cant decide on what to do first!
As far as blower cams go, if I do the cam first and install a blower cam will I see a nice power gain and still have that cam lope? Or am I better of wainting till I have enough money to do a blower first? The blower is big money, so it might take me 2 years to get the cash together. The cam would be much easier to save for. Not sure what route to take, but I want to start a savings fund soon and have this planned out. Thanks |

Blower and cam is a good combo but if your cas strapped just do bolt ons for now and et a tune.

Just thinking ahead of time, I know a cam would not take to long to save for... but I know I want a blower down the road and dont want to run a blower cam without the blower first if it wont work right! My car will be done one step at a time, so it needs to be planed out right. If the cam will work fine without the blower then I would do the cam first.

You will want to get the Supercharger first, or everything together.

Why don't your first decide which speed shop is going to do your work and then go and visit the shop. While you are there sit down with the one in charge and let them help you put a plan together. I'm at my 5th stage of mods now. If I had to do it over again knowing what I know now that is the way I would do it. I'm not sure but you may save some labor $$ doing the cam first then the blower. I have the L99 with a maggie 2300 so if I do a cam they have to pull the blower and reinstall and that's wasted $$. Your speed shop will give you the best advice.

I dont know much about blower cams, will running a blower cam without the blower have a negitive effect on power somewere... thats what I am saying. I did plan on installing the blower myself so labor cost is not the issue. If the blower cam will make good power without the blower on yet...is there any reason not to install it first.

Blower cam will still give you gains, and exponentially so when you put the S/C on it.

Yes a blower cam will work until you get the blower. Just because it's called a blower cma doesn't mean it needs one it just make the use of a blower more efficient. No matter what mods you do in the end it's all in the tune. If you have the right tune driveability and power should not be a issue.

With an LS3 and a maggie does the blower need to be removed in order to install a blower cam?

We have built many cars both ways Blower first then cam and Cam first then blower. I had posted a Dyno graph showing the performance of our blower cam without the blower and results were impressive considering the big exhaust lobe. On an LS3 with headers and CAI put down 445 RWHP and has a nice lope to it. That Same cam has made 750 RWHP several times with a Blower on otherwise stock long blocks. Which way you go depends on what you Can Afford to do now the blower or the cam first. A lot of guy have smaller budgets and want to build one small step at a time and still reap the benefits, and I think this is the case here. So a Cam First will Satisfy you for a while power wise and give you that great muscle car sound. Ted.
