Updated solution to JBA shorty header leak.

I know nearly everyone who has installed JBA's have had leaking and CEL issues. I did. After a few experiments i made a gasket from material we use for high heat/high pressure applications at work. This solution was very effective and i have been running for 8 months with no CEL. Friday i got the dreaded CEL. Code displayed the passenger side was leaking. Took it down and found a bad install on my part was the cause, even though it took 8 months to finally show up.

Unfortunately the "V" clamp broke taking it off. Called JBA and they are sending me a new one free of charge.

The gaskets are made of two layers of graphoil material with a .001 stainless shim between them. At one time NAPA had the material in a sheet they could order. It was listed as a universal exhaust gasket material. The shim can cut an individual's finger very badly if mishandled so they may not have access to it anymore.

I would suggest to any of you still having JBA leak issues to look into getting these done. They are 2.5 inches inside diameter and 3.124 outside diameter.

Has JBA mentioned updating their gaskets, we've been looking at their shorties, but with all the leak issues we're not sure

Any other symptoms/noise issues before the gaskets gave way?

I know this is going to break all the rules. But I used blue tape on both flanges then use jp weld to form a gaskit. It held all summer and last week THAT FRIGGING CELL. I've put almost 6500 miles this year with no cell. I'm prob going to weld them in over winter or just go long tube. Any takers on long tubes?

Anyone who is interested in trying my solution can PM me and i can work on getting some out to you. I know it sux to have to deal with it but I have spoken to JBA tech guys a cpl times and they tell me i need to resurface the stacker flange then try again. Not everyone can get their flange resurfaced so these gaskets are the best thing i have found short of solid welding or sending them back for refund.

Can you just buy the original GM gaskets and use those?

We are using the OE GM gaskets for the header to engine surface. They aren't leaking. There is no gaskets for the JBA V6 headers to exhaust pipe connection. They have a 2.5" "V" clamp, band, that hold the two flanges together with a metal to metal surface contact. This is where they tend to leak. Welding less than 3 inches from a flat surface will not leave a flat surface when finished.
