I have a pair of cats removed from a 2010 Camaro that had the secondaries very professionally removed. I kept them because the removal was done so nicely. The primaries are in tact and perfectly usable with no check engine light. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not it is legal to resell a used cat to be put back into use on another vehicle. I do know it is fine to resell for scrap.

Absolutely! They contain Platinum and I usually get $35-$50 each from the scrap dealer.

Hey!! 1st of all i think it is illegal to remove or even relocate the cats from a vehicle period. The only way you can remove them i belive is if they are bad. I also dont think it is legal to sell them unless ur licenced but i might be mistaken. But i do know u can sell them for scrap. Thats all i know. Hope that helps. Im sure someone will be able to give u a straight answer!

If you can't sell your cats, the local SPCA will pick them up for free.

There is a dealer on LS1tech.com that buys them. He gives $80 a pair for LS1 Cats so it is probally close for a LS3/L99.

The correct answer is yes and no

To sell the cats as scrap metal: YES! perfectly legal

To sell the cats as a car part to be re-used on another vehicle: ILLEGAL! It is illegal to sell a used cat as a car part, because it is a wear and tear emmissions item. This is why you can't buy them from a junkyard.
