That is a very good question as most paint scratches come from improper washing techniques and equipment. Use Adam's products and watch the Junkman videos on YouTube and follow his instructions to the letter and you'll be fine.

I can definitely vouch for using a clay bar. It really does make the paint feel as smooth as can be, even on a new car there is a difference.
Don't use dish detergent if you plan on waxing. Research whatever products you use, because not all are created equal. I learned the hard way with turtle wax, that was a PITA..

Fiji water and the best soap is baby seal tears. If you can find a sleeping baby yank it's blanket out from under it or I prefer to use the soft underbelly of a lion.
