We need these heads badly for FI users because of the deck problem under boost lifting the heads with the stock casting. The only question I have is with the intake mounting. Will any PD supercharger bolt up to these heads? If not then I think we may have an issue.

The TFS heads require a special lower intake plate for the roots blowers to fit. I imagine the afr head is similar. Aftermarket or not the heads will lift regardless unless you change to a 6 bolt casting (aftermarket block)

I wonder what impact the special plate will have on Whipple, KB, and Edelbrock owners. I think we need more info on this subject.

You are totally correct on the lifting but you can have more insurance with a thick decked aftermarket casting like AFR or TFS vs the factory casting. Besides I can almost garrantee that it will be offered in a 6 bolt design. Every other TFS head above 235cc is offered in a 6 bolt design. The LS3 factory head probably has the worst reputation for lifting vs the other LS factory heads because of its deck thickness.

quick note:

the Trick flow heads will have an 11* valve angle, opposed to the factory 15* valve angle.

This will help airflow and will help out with piston to valve clearance, as will the smaller intake valve

TFS HEADS

correction: 12* valve angle

estimated price: 2500-2700 (THIS IS AN ESTIMATED PRICE, BUT THAT'S THEIR GOaL)

Release date: Not Jan. 1, it is the first quarter of 2011

Current status: They are still dyno testing the heads

The said flow numbers are obviously cnc'ed numbers, they are not as-cast

They will be offer different runner sizes down the road

You will have a choice of either wanting to run the ls3 or ls7 intake when ordering (there are two different sets of heads)

Intake valves are NOT hollow stem

So danhr, are these Trick flow heads worth waiting for? You seem to have a lot of knowledge on heads/cams. I am trying to decide if porting the stock LS3 heads is worth the money, or should I go with aftermarket heads. What do you think of the Mast black label heads? I have the G6X3 cam and full exhaust/tune/4.10's.

Kind of a trick question. They are for the "more hardcore" so to speak......

The trick flow heads, flow really well, but they dont flow much more than a $1200 set of ported stock heads, at least not enough to justify the ~1300 price difference imho.

If you are buying these (Trick Flow) heads, you are buying more than just flow numbers, you are buying the "extras" like the thicker deck, valve angle, smaller intake valve (yet retaining the same intake flow numbers), etc. etc. etc.

IMHO, in your particular case, you might benefit from waiting for these heads, as you have the G6x3 cam. These heads will allow you to mill more to bump your compression up, without running into piston to valve clearance issues and having to flycut your pistons, with their already smaller than stock combustion chamber and 12* valve angle, and smaller intake valve. How much will you be able to mill? Unsure at this point.
