Canon T1i DSLR

I am debating whether or not to purchase a Canon T1i DSLR camera. I have been looking for a good DSLR for a while and stumbled onto the T1i.

If anyone has feedback, or even suggestions please let me know. Any feedback is much appreciated.

It's probably ok for that price range.

Personally, I prefer Nikon, but my D90 is in a higher price range. It is a very nice camera though.

Yeah I have a D40, but it's not a DSLR. I don't want to go any higher in price. If I were to go higher, I would just save up to get the Canon 7D. But thats crazy expensive!

Canon vs. Nikon is all personal preferrence. I'm a canon guy myself. Tribone, TripleB, and myself all have the T1i. It's a great camera for the money. I highly recommend it.

I have a T1i and love it.
My only gripe is the focus while video'ing is annoying but no biggie.

here my cat in 720p

I have the T1i and its great. Faster than older Canon Models, and the video is great (just have to be steady).

Here is video taken of my firehouse's Drill Team racing in 720p

Also you may want to look at the T2i, basically the same camera, but with more HD video modes, if you're really into video shooting. Its about $100 more.

I was in a similar dilemma this last summer. I wanted to take better pictures than i was with my olympus point and shoot but I didn't want to break the bank as i wasn't really that into photography seriously.

After a long time searching and researching i had narrowed it down to the Canon Rebel XSI and the Nikon D5000. I went with the D5000 because it had more features and i really like the swivel screen.

I recommend checking out the D5000. if you are not a super serious photographer it will be more than adequate, its cheaper than the higher end camera but packs a lot of the same features. The swivel screen is very handy and it also works as a 720p video recorder!

Best thing to do is head down to the local store and try handling the different cameras... Some brands will feel more natural/comfortable than other when you are holding them.

The other thing to think about is your lenses... I switched from using mediocre/kit type lenses to more pro level lenses (yes, a lot more $$$) but the difference was staggering! So if you want to get the best result plan on spending some money on good glass...

I've been shooting Canon DSLRs since the original Digital Rebel... and I'm still shooting Canon...

I don't have an SLR yet, but wanted a nice point and shoot along with great quality pictures. I went ahead and bought the Cannon G10. . . great camera.

That's one of the cameras I've been thinking about getting! It's one of the few non-DSLR cameras that has the option to take RAW photos. I was just worried about the picture quality, but after seeing your photos, I'm sold! Thanks!

It is a good camera. I'm a Canon shooter myself. Pay attention to what scrming says, it's all about the glass. If you do get the Canon, the professional "L" Canon glass is much cheaper than the same Nikon counterpart. That being said Canon is coming out with new versions of the super tele's that are going to be much more expensive. The older version like I have continue to work fine though. Just be aware that if you ever do get an "L" lens, you'll never go back. It's addictive. I went digital in 2004 with the 10D, and over $20,000 dollars in equipment later, I'm real happy I made the switch.
