WOOO! All good news! =D
GM is coming out swingin with all this new performance stuff, its pretty amazing. Im mainly interested in the whole E85 usage here, ive been a huuge supporter of E85 for a long time now and id love to see all this translate to the street, id love to get E85 in my car eventually. Im glad to see GM is so amped up about performance, its pretty awsome, but im still never going to be a huge fan of turbo V6s, im a V8 man through and through no matter how unpractical our outdated it gets =P
And HELL YEAH as far as Indy goes! Check the left side, im an Indy native, and yes a very big fan of the IRL series (yes, IRL, not this retarted IZOD sponsership BS, its like calling the Brickyard 400 the Allstate 400 it just doesnt work...doesnt work...) Its a really awsome series but it was kinda boring how you could put your money on Honda every year and be preeeetty confidant in yourself hahaha, now i can go gloat to all the import guys at the track that my brand is gonna smash theirs >=} having Chevy to root for is going to put me waayy deeper into the series, it'll give me something big to support, hopefully Ford and Mopar follow suit, especially Mopar i didnt even think about the Fiat stuff influencing them but i bet it will.
2012 is shaping up to be a pretty decisive year in GM's schedual, i cant wait!

"Because Penske owns a stake in Ilmor Engineering, which will build the Chevrolet engines, Penske understands there will be questions about the integrity of the distribution process. But he noted Ilmor currently is building Honda's engines, and Ganassi's team won the Indianapolis 500 and the series title this season with Dario Franchitti."

Also they had a nice display of pace cars out front.
Very nice display of pace cars, that 67' is looking especially attractive if i must say ;-) hahaha

So the other part of the deal I thought was very cool is that Chevrolet will be designing one for the chassis as well.

(From the link above)

"Chevrolet will offer a twin-turbocharged direct-injected V6 engine. It will use E85 fuel, part of IndyCar's desire to utilize relevant technology in the years to come. It will make an aerodynamic kit to fit the common chassis built by Dallara."
Sorry, i have to point something out.

No they won't be using E85. Indycar uses Ethanol.

Gasoline was banned from Indy back in the '60's because of several bad accidents.

E85 is Ethanol, i know the whole "its this much this and this much that" but in general it is Ethanol

True, but I believe the indy cars use a much purer and obviously more performance oriented form of Ethanol. E85 is a consumer based gasoline, it wouldn't run in indy cars I'm sure.

Honda has applied tons of excellent quality information from its racing teams into its everyday cars. Toyota trucks have been improved by Toyota spending many, many dollars in the cross country and "Baja" series. Racing teams can test/research and share data with the parent company and the overal result is improved performace and handling for us the consumer. Yes, much money is spent but, for the research and development side, if used wisely, is well worth the cost. This is great news. I was born in Indianapolis and the 500 is in my blood. Not only car companys/engines but tire wars were fought on this track for many years....YES, let history repeat itself....c'mon Ford, Chrysler, Goodyear, Firestone and all others...bring it on!!! Competition makes us all better....its the American way.

Indy fuel only has enough gas in it to make it undrinkable. The rest is ethanol as others have mentioned. The E85 would just be more gas blended in.

Id love to see them run stock blocks with unlimited mods. LLT vs duratec vs vtec etc. That would benefit the end user. Much like the 2.0l ecotec gets NHRA 40psi runs @ 1000hp on the stock block. I know thats not the past norm but i think it would generate more interest and force manufacturers to offer us some robust designs.

Tom Stephens was sure to address that when he spoke at the news conference:

http://indycar.com/news/show/55-izod...-for-2012-car/

"Our vision is to design, build and sell the world’s best vehicles – and racing is one of the best ways to showcase what we can do," said Tom Stephens, GM vice chairman of Global Product Operations. "Re-entering Indy-style racing will help us take our advanced engine technology to the upper bounds of what’s possible. And it will also provide a dynamic training ground for engineers, who’ll transfer the technologies we develop for racing to the products we sell to our customers.

"GM has become a recognized leader in implementing direct-injection technology in both four-cylinder and V-6 engines by leveraging knowledge already gained from racing. Building on this foundation, our new partnership with Ilmor will give us even more opportunities to accelerate our engine technology. It will help our effort to continue to expand and improve the DI technology for street cars. Indy racing will also let us compete at the cutting-edge of key technologies like safety, aerodynamics, electronics and materials so we can make our vehicles even more efficient, safer, more innovative and, especially, more fun to drive."

(P.S. Thanks Vega!)

Can diesels also run in the series under the new motor rules? Audi had the 24 hr car that did well.
