I did a TSP 231/236 cam only car two weeks ago. It had pacesetter headers, cam, valve springs, pushrods, "home made" magna flow cat back, and TSP cold air. The car still had the stock pulley on it. After I tuned it, it made 463rwhp 423rwtq. That's the best "cam only" car I've done so far. I'd consider that "proven". I'm doing an install of that same cam, but with the PRC heads on a 2010 LS3 vette next week. I expect it to go around 495 or better rwhp. Of the 10 or so cam only 2010's I've done, the TSP cam has made the most rwhp and rwtq. BUT, I'll have to admit most of the ones I've done have been cams that were used LS1 cams that the guys have bought for $200.

You should check out the ADM stage2 cam. I have it in my car and it drives like stock but has a good chop to it as well. It also works well with my maggie!!

I used EA Pro to model these cams.
I didn't consider #2 because of another posters comment. Both #1 and #3 produce less torque below 4000 RPM than the factory cam. Cam #1 gives up 50 lb-ft of low end Tq to get a 40 HP top kick. Cam #3 gives up 20 lb-ft of low end Tq to get a 30 HP top kick. Either of these cams would need 4.30 gears to be good on the street.

You need torque down low unless it's a drag car turning high revs . My first cam gained almost 30 hp , lost 20ftlbs low and 5ftlbs at peak . I installed a tsp 225/230 112 since but haven't hit the dyno yet . Running pretty well though . I've got a feeling with these small motors unless you go crazy with the revs cams slightly larger than stock are the way to go . In retrospect I probably should have stroked it right away and may do so this winter .

The stock LS3 cam is actually quite good street cam im actually thinking just leave the engine as is ,
If i do change the cam its gotta produce more torque rite thru the rev range than the stock otherwise id be disapointed. I donot wanna rev the car to 4000 rpm to get it moving but 2000 onwards. |

ok ive come to decision and tsp 231/236 on a 112 is the go for two reasons its the only cam ive come across with alot of dyno data and reports and the fact the cam is designed for LS3, ITS obviously gonna have a nice idle with an improved exhaust note, the LS3 Standard cam is quite tame.
Now on tsp website i can buy the kit but im no mechanic so dont have a glue what to order. Guys can you tell me exactly what parts i need for the swap like bolts balancer and gaskets ect pushrod lenght blah blah yea BABY ITS GONNA ROCK |

What would be the difference in going to a 111 LSA with the 231/236 cam? Wouldn't it help down low a little?

There is more too it than just changing LSA. Valve event's are pretty important to making power in different rpm area's.

I ended up sticking new wheels, new tyres and put the cam on hold for now as the car onj the stock LS3 cam goes pretty good as is.
But i can afford the cam kit to start with. Like ive read in other threads from sponsors, be honest with where you spend most time driving rpm and whats the cars used for . In my case the 231/236 sounds awesome but the TSP smaller 225/230 would im guessing a killer torque cam for a daily driven street car making more power under 2000rpm than stock with is appealling. So will tsp have any more cam kit package deals coming up?? |
