Why have a resonator? A resonator is essentially a kill box for unwanted frequencies. Production exhausts are engineered, tuned, to reduce or amplify specific frequencies that are deemed pleasing for a specific car model. To do this, combinations of resonators and mufflers are used.
For a 3" resonator, look a truck exhaust suppliers. Many truck and diesel exhausts are 3".

I wouldn't call resonators a kill box. Usually they are installed to help with the drone on larger exhausts. Hence my you're looking at one for your 3" and why I have one on my 3". It doesn't retard the exhaust system at all by canceling out a certain frequency range. Just alters the tone of the exhaust so as to have less in cabin feedback.
