Main reason is from past experience with my ex. Vette C6 (2007 model), overheating in the hot weather in Kuwait (Mid-east).

Wanted to reduce the hassle of maintanance during the summer with a high HP engine.

The 304hp v6 engine has an acceptional high HP output and alot of fun to cruise in.

The only thing i was PISSSSED-off about was that the v6 RS/Package in mid-east spec. didnt come with leather seats nor the special 4-dial gauges! ....other than that, the v6 is PERFECT!

Why would I need a 6.2 engine, if it was 5.7 I would even consider it !!

I have a good experience with 3.6 V6 engines and with some modes it will make you happy.

Moreover, Im in love with the Camaro exterior more than anything else.

I'm not sure I can agree with fuel savings. I'm looking at a manual and the SS gets 16/24 while the V6 only offers 17/28. I guess it depends how you drive, but the only time I've ever seen the top end ratings is if it's all highway driving, I'm going downhill and there is a good tail wind behind me. So I'd anticipate 20mpg on average from the SS and 22-23mpg from the V6. You can't argue you'd save more, but the MPG's are very minimal.

One thing I might have overlooked is the need for premium fuel. I wasn't aware the SS required premium. Running at the track is a different story, I'm just talking about putting to & from work. Will the SS not run as well, or does it do any damage using just regular 87 unleaded?

Btw...hope no one thinks I'm bashing the V6....I am seriously just talking out loud and trying to be open-minded.

Welcome to the Forum.

Good Luck with you decision. It can be a difficult one. For me I wanted the Inferno Orange Interior this only comes in the 2LT or the 2SS. When adding up the numbers it was another 7 grand for the SS. Works out to 100 bucks a month. Then there is the gas bill of another 100 a month. I drive 70 miles round trip daily. And your figures for the mileage is slightly off. After adding my MRT exhaust and INJEN CAI. Setting the cruise at 70 mph for the 25 mile highway drive I can get over 30 MPG. My overall average since owning it has been over 24.5 I have over 13,000 miles and seen over 25 passes at the drag strip and I certainly don’t hold back on the road when the opportunity allows me to hear the sweet sound of my exhaust.

When test driving the SS, the power sure is nice but I figured it would only get me a one way ticket to jail. That is just way more power than I need for my daily driver.

As others have pointed out the V6 is plenty quick. Rod1 is at top running mid 13’s And I have run a best of 13.783.

Again Good luck and hope to hear that you got your Camaro weather it be a V6 or a V8 you will not be disappointed.

If you are going to get the 2LT to save money or whatever, then just get the 1SS like Mrray13 explained. The 2 cars cost almost the same to start off with, but the longterm costs will be cheaper on the LT.

My reasons.....better gas mileage, premium gas is not required and the insurance for me atleast was almost 500 bucks less for the year. Which is a big difference IMHO. Yea I have been modding the hell out of my ride, will I get a turbo or SC one day? Probably. But I am not trying to make my car into a v8 beater, I just want her to go as fast as possible

Good luck with your choice.

In the city I average 18 mpg and on the highway its 30 mpg.

Very simple,

1. Barely under 100 miles a day for work. Much better mpg's and still fun to drive. First half of my drive to work and last half on the way home is good streches of open road which allow more than the 28mpg you spoke of. I average, round trip over 3 days, 27mpg. As long as i behave.

2. The interior "goodies" were important to my wife and I and the 2LT was 6K cheaper than the 2SS.

3. I spend half my tirip in traffic, dont need 426 hp when you are bumper to bumper.

4. I intend to keep this one for daily use so i can save my Z28, when it hits the market, for the weekend fun.

i got a v6 because its more pratical for a every day car, i drive 35 miles a day mostly in bumper to bumper traffic so i dont need 400hp and the gas miles is better in a v6 312 is enough to have fun with, do some bolt on's and it will help mpg a little and give it a lil more pep and well teh extra 6k wasnt worth it for 88 more hp

The creature comforts of the 2LT and the mods I have on the car I am pushing 340HP. For my purposes, that's plenty of ponies. I'm not 18, I don't race it. Whatever you choose, get the Manual. you will get sooo much more out of it...Good Luck

So tell me V6'ers....what made you choose the V6 over the more potent SS?
All the answers here (and a few more) are good, but the best one is your answer. If you want a daily driver and you don't think the SS will make a good one, then the V6 is a good choice. However, I suggest you drive one first. It has lots of power, but if you though the L99 in normal drive mode was not enough power for you then a V6/M6 won't be either. Fun, yes, but you will have to put some mods on it to get the same feel. Good luck with your decision, either way you can't go wrong.

100 miles per day driving for me - then usually lots more on the weekends.

I wanted something I can run regular gas in and get good mileage. My choices were something like an accord, or camry, or a freakin' camaro. This one looked a lot more fun.

I never wanted a camaro - but I'm diggin' it now!

Simple. I thought about getting a 1SS, it wouldn't have been too much more than my 2LT/RS. Realistically do I need ALL of that 426hp? I'm a college student and I need a daily driver, since it was going to be a DD I wanted all of the creature comforts. And YES I'm moding the hell out of my car, but lets think about this, if I had an SS I'd want more performance and mod that too, it doesn't matter if it has 500hp stock or 200hp stock, I'd still want to mod it.
