Hell yeah I'm Guilty.....

Hi Guys, I left a couple more messages but nothing came back (that was a little before Christmas), I figured I would give the benefit of the doubt that the holidays may have been a distraction to the folks at Depaula, I know I was busier than a one arm wall-paper hanger!
Its into later January now, I figure there isnt much going to happen (I didnt expect much in the first place)...BUUUT I did get an email from GM-FSE, a customer service/ dealer input questionaire asking specifically about Depaula. I filled it out honestly and left emotion out of it, just responses in a factual manner. I dont know if it will get anywhere with what happened to me but maybe it will give them a wake up call. No matter what dealer ship you go to there are people who have had GREAT and TERRIBLE experiences at the same place. Thats life.

Polite clearly hasn't worked. Tell them that they can replace the glass, NOW. If that isn't acceptable, you will have the glass replaced yourself at another repair shop, and you will see them in court for compensation for the repairs. Also alert the BBB. They damaged your property, they don't get to tell you how they are going to fix it. In this case, as in so many others, fight your rights, or watch them get trampled.

I'd like to add that their sales staff stinks too. My experience with them was very brief...sounds like I was lucky. This was WAY back in 2000.
Called the dealer to inquire about a Cavalier for my (now ex) wife. kid that answered the phone didn't give me his name and I totally forgot to ask, ok no biggie. Drove out there 30 mins later. Walked in the door. Nobody gets up to greet us, not even the old slick sitting at the desk right in front of the door. And there were NO customers that evening! Finally after about 10 minutes of walking around and browsing someone asks if we've been helped. Didn't even get offered a test drive, wasn't even shown a car. But they gladly quoted a price of $380 something a month for a stripped down Cavalier! LOL...needless to say we left. Of course that wasn't as explosive as my run int with Al Adams from Al Adams Chevrolet in East Greenbush. He was all happy and smiles until I told him I was eligible for the GM Discount. Then he gets all nasty with me and says "I only make $200 per car" and "why should you get a car cheaper than I can?" Well AL...why should car dealers be able to rob people blind? And little did Al know.....all of this was after I was so generous to have my insurance company pay his dealership to fix my hit and run dented vehicle 6 months before! Jack@ss. I see blowhard Al sold his dealership to Fuccillo....good riddance..in my opinion that's one crook to another. Oh and then there was the sales manager at DeNooyer. Had a simple lease turn in. Call up. They don't do appointments but no problem it only takes 15 minutes. Drive out, ask for that blowhard...apparently it was a stellar sales day...wait 30 minutes, "hey um I have that lease turn in I called about"....15 more minutes later..."um excuse me"....finallly an hour later I'm losing it. Then the jerk turns and says with a furious face "I'll get to you when I feel like it" So I went to the greeters desk to tell them how I had been treated and asked where a phone was and a phone book...so I could call another dealer to turn in my lease. Instead the owner stopped by and helped us out finally...and apologized for the wait. Moved away from Albany a year later....needless to say...I am not impressed with ANY Albany Chevy Dealer. The next car I bought was a Saturn..... |

I'm sure the staff has changed since 11 years ago.
How's that Saturn dealer doing these days?

Not sure, probably selling used cars for all I know.
Point is to dealers like Depaula, DeNooyer, Big Al. You never get a 2nd chance to make a first impression...yes even 11 years later! |

Saturn = Vapor. Poof. Gone.
Dealers need to step up their game. Had a similar experience in yorkville. Went to Carbone Chevrolet. Test drove a 2SS. Customer service was actually great at first. I was immediately approached by a salesperson. He was relatively friendly, but had a little bit of that cocky "I can sell a car to anyone so I don't need you" attitude. He was polite though and offered a test drive immediately. During the drive I start to discuss pricing. He says they have been selling Camaros for thousands over MSRP. (This was late summer 2010) I reply that there are many dealers selling for well under MSRP. He asks where. I told him about some of our forum vendors, and he says: "Oh, maybe you should try that." I also ask him if they could order me a 1SS since they did not have any on the lot. His reply "Nobody wants a 1SS." After the test drive I make it clear that I will not pay MSRP, and If he'd like to ask his sales manager if he can give me a better price I would be happy to wait for a moment. He told me it just wouldn't happen. So I said thank you for the test drive. He let me walk off the lot without giving me a card with his phone number, and he did not take down any contact info from me. I also had contacted Davidson Chevrolet in Watertown about a used 1SS, again, initially the salesperson was very friendly. They did not have the inventory that I was looking for so I asked him to see if he could find something else, perhaps a new 1SS, or a 2010 leftover for a decent price. 2 days no phone call. On the 3rd day I call back, and the salesman was unavailable. I used to sell cars so I didn't want to cost the guy a commission, so I give him more time. 4th day he calls back, but I was unavailable when he called. I returned his call not more than an hour later, he was unavailable. I don't get a callback for another day or so. Turns out the salesperson had family problems. While I can appreciate how that can affect a person, it's still no excuse to string a potential customer along. So. Long story short, people do want 1SS' and I did exactly what the salesman from carbone told me. Ordered my 1SS from BeckyD in feb, it was delivered in under a month EXACTLY how I wanted it. Sorry upstate NY chevy dealers. Indifference, and inability to price match cost you a sale. I'm all about supporting local businesses when applicable, but I'm not a sucker either. I work hard for my money, salespeople should work hard for me to give it to them. If they all took a page out of BeckyD's book we wouldn't have threads like this. Sorry about your situation with Depaula Phantom. Looking forward to meeting you at a club even this summer!!!

How come these horror stories seem to come mostly out of New York State?
That's the impression I get anyway.

Its New York, we are the most taxed, most expensive and lately seemingly the most "out for themselves" state in the country. If it were not for having an excellent job I would have bolted long ago, and still may if it doesnt turn around some. "I have a help thy neighbor" attitude not a "help thy neighbor now that will be $700 please" attitude. I really dont belong in NY but is it any better anywhere else??? Anyhow, I know every dealer in the world has had complaints at one time or another, how they handle it is the big thing. In this case the GM rep (Guyer) was no help either and that reflects on the parent company. I gave him every opportunity includeing taking my car home with him to verify the problems....he wasnt interested. I know Depaula has lost a bunch of sales over this, my old boss even jumped in and bought his 4 new company trucks from another dealer last month. Just goes to show ya, dont get mad,get even..theres no press like BAD press. ![]() Hey BTW its summer....lets get out and DRIIIIIVE!
