all I can say you'll love the car more after your L99 was tuned.
On that note, if you bring in you car to the dealership to have the transmission repaired a couple times, expect to pay the bill. It would be like adding a huge cam, but when a lifter busted out the side, you'd want the dealer to replace the motor. Racing is an expensive game. |

that being said, there were a few highly modified cars (blowers, turbos, etc) that had the output shaft break and were still fixed by GM because the output shaft would have sheared under stock power levels anyway.

What you can do...
.. is buy an ECU from another car, same year, same model, and put that in. you will need to disable the imobilizer though. Or have a dealer recal the ecu to work with your keys. Then when you want, put the other ECU back in. The dealer can see ANY modifications you make to the ECU.. they take a snapshot of it before they sell you the car as well. |

I don't see why a dealer would do this for you, if it means you are gonna run the car on a different tune and then try to hide the tune when you have a power train failure? Unless you have a hookup at a dealer, which most of us don't.

i have a pre 25xxx car, and I know my output shaft is on borrowed time. Would be nice if over the winter, GM would replace my output shaft.

For the auto turning of torque management brings huge improvements. I do not know if I will make it another 3 years without tuning. I may bite the bullet when my 3 year/ 36k miles is up. Chances are if they car did not break by then it is a pretty solid build.

Have a good relationship with your dealership service manager. Its going to be his call to send off your ECM or just rebuild.

Here is my very humble opinion on this subject. Yes my car is modded with headers, cam swap, HF cats, CAI and a Dyno Tune.
My car makes about 450 rwhp not alot by most standards but more than some and more than stock. I did the cam swap for the muscle car lope and that is excatly what I got. The car runs extremely well and I have had no problems since Vengeance Racing installed it. I have added Pfadt lowering springs and sways and GMPP Axle back exhaust as well. I have an earlier range VIN that was the subject of the tranny shafts breaking during certain conditions, so if mine breaks I feel I am out of luck since I modded. But too my thoughts. Many tailshafts broke with stock cars. Why? USE. Just because you mod you car does not mean it is going to break and just because you don't mod it doesn't mean you will get a million miles on it. There are alot of varibles that go into it. These are mechanical machines with man made parts that fail. This is a fact and will never change. Of course we all have the Uncle who has a car that he had in high school that he never changes the oil in that still runs today. Keeping that in mind, keeping in mind what a muscle car was and is and the fact that everyone like to make it his/hers own it boild down to a personal choice or personal responsibility. If you mod and it breaks you fix it. In the 60's if you put a big cam in a car and it slung a rod, you fixed it, you didn't run to GM and say faulty part..... Unlike cars of yester year modding is alot more technical today, screwdrivers and wrenches have been replaced with laptops. So if you plan on modding please take responsiblity for your actions, and if your actions cause something to break simply fix it and learn your lesson. JMHO.
