I was actually contemplating an 09 Cobalt T/C. I found one for $17 with 10k miles on it. I went and test drove it; pretty fast. The trans is a little clunky, but overall, a great compact turbo setup. It has a completely different suspension setup than the 'lesser' cobalt coupes; and it shows well.

Then I found a used '10 Camaro 2LT with 4k miles. Drove it and damn, with the IRS and LSD with the 6 speed.... It's just way more fun to drive. I ended up getting it for a badass price; about 22k; so yes it was $5k more expensive... but it was 1 model year newer, had leather & heated seats, remaining warranty, and way more badass 19" rims. But on any given day, when I see it; I know that it, in every aspect, is better than a Cobalt. Any Cobalt. I don't care if it has twin turbos and ostentatious looking front slicks with N2O. It's a Cobalt; and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that; I almost bought one. It's just not a Camaro.

As far as the OP's question; stock vs stock, the Cobalt SS/TC will win. Mod vs mod? I honestly think it depends on quality and knowledge. The aftermarket for the cobalt has plenty of options; the Camaro as of yet is slowly trickling in performance parts. I think it really is who you are; and Im not a sport compact guy. The sound of a 4cyl exhaust makes me want to

I get the whole dont compare NA to FI, but the OP was just talking stock vs stock; and a Cobalt will win.

But its still not a Camaro. I mean... look at them:

Cobalt SS Turbo all the way, they can do 0-60 in low-mid 5s and the 1/4 mile in high 13s/low 14s. V6 Camaros can do 0-60 in 5.9 seconds-ish MAX, and 1/4 mile in 14.2/14.3 MAX.

And you base this info on? Are you talking stock? I ask because for the price of some exhaust and a cold air intake (under a 800 bucks) the camaro will get into the 13.7's to 13.8's in the 1/4 mile.

Well it is all in what you want. But you do know you have a "sport compact" really. I mean any drag strip you go to you will either run sport compact do to your v6 or stock class, which I can run either as well. The cobalt also doesnt sound like the average civic or other 4 cylinder. So what color and such camaro did you buy?

Very few people have enough to money to do as they will with any car. Thus, the money and cost argument is always a valid one. It all comes down to what somebody wants, and I wanted my SC Cobalt and now I want an SS Camaro. It's all wants compared to cost.
The lnf doesn't have forged internals, neither does the lsj. Just keeping info straight, I agree with your point.

The pistons are the only cast piece in the lnf. Well besides the block. The crank and rods are forged.

I have no idea why they went with cast, but that has proven to be the weak spot. And yea the exhaust is no v8 sound but I dont think its to bad.

Yes stock. Let's compare apples to apples and NOT bring oranges into the conversation please. Thank you. Well your Car B may have 400 horsepower stock but my Car A with X amount of money can make more horsepower, so my car's faster. REALLY ?!?!?

These are highly trained professional testing the SS Manual/Automatic and the RS Manual/Automatic all on a closed course in fully STOCK Camaros.
The V6 RS Manual managed a best time of 14.4 @ 98.0 mph and 0-60 in 5.9

MT also tested the Cobalt SS: 0-60 in just 5.5 seconds and the quarter in 13.9 at 102.5 mph. That's a half second and near 5 mph lead in the 1/4 mile and a near half second lead in the 0-60 contest.

I can keep going and show more facts to backup the Cobalt SS's straightline(and cornering AND braking) advantages if you want...

I still say the cobalt will be faster but the pros really are not the best at driving the cars. Someone that owns the car and drives it every day and practices will be able to run better. The cobalt has boasted a fastest of 13.5x at 105 in canada dry air, not sure on the camaro.

Yeah in the cold or at higher altitudes I would imagine the Cobalt SS performing even better or pulling away from the Camaro RS even more so...
