I've got the DNX9960 and Metra kit as well and the system works flawlessly. You can turn down the Ticking volume on the interface module. And the resistor does keep the system from rebooting when using Onstar. (I don't use Onstar anymore since the GPS rocks on the 9960 but I have tested it and it works perfectly, it just mutes the music and then resumes once Onstar hangs up).

When everything was first hooked up and tested it out, the Ticking was insanely loud and shitty sounding, you just turn down one of the potentiometer knobs on the interface unit and it will sound normal.

As for the head unit shutting off, the mute line of the radio must be connected to the mute line of the interface. The 9960 has a very weak pull up, however, and the kit can't detect it. To fix it, add a 300K resistor between the brown (mute) wires and the red (accessory) wires. Your radio will then mute when in OnStar or OE Bluetooth instead of shutting down.

Now for the chime/OnStar sound coming through the front speaker. Since the sound comes only through the center speaker, I'm guessing that you added an aftermarket amp which is being driven directly by the head unit, but the BA amp is still in the car. In that case the gain pots on the interface should be adjusted as follows: Turn off the car, leave the keys in, and open the door. This will start the chime signal. Start by turning the gain pot (closer to the corner of the board) fully CCW. Then turn the chime pot fully CCW. Then slowly turn the gain pot CW until you like the chime volume.

If my guess above is wrong, let me know. What exactly do you mean by "sounds like crap"? Noisy, distorted, both?

please can anyone tell my what kind of resistor (300K Ohm, how many Watt) i need for a kenwood radio. i'm not an expert on this.
i plan to install the metra kit with a kenwood unit.

Edit: never mind. Someone else posted. I just didn't read through all the posts.

But actually the OnStar part I think is mentioned in the Metra manual, about adding that resister. I would take it back to them and show them.

But also, email Metra. Awesome customer service. I worked directly with them about the turn single issue and got that chip pulled out right away. I just wish they would have made the chimes better as they just sound terrible but it's how it is. I was a bit bummed by it.

I haven't seen many other posts about this kit around, so I was wondering if someone could answer a quick question about the Metra for me? I installed it yesterday with a pioneer DDIN unit, everything powers up fine and functions, but the front speakers are not playing sound? Only the rear speakers. I followed metras instructions exactly, white to white, etc for the 4 wires that are to the front speakers. I did the rears with the green, purple wire adapter and obviously they are working. I do not have a great understanding of these sort of things so if anyone could tell me how to get my front speakers working? THANKS!

Glad I took the time to read through these posts. I was considering swapping the factory head unit and going with the Metra and another unit, but now I think I will pass. I would rather live with the factory unit than start dealing with all of these type issues.

did you only loose your chimes or also the ticking of the indicators. i mean the ticking that comes trought the speakers and not the one that is produced by the relay that is connencted to the metra interface.

if you lost both, it could be that the volume of the chimes is turned down completely on the potentiometer on the side of the metra interface, where you can adjust the volume of the chimes and the indicators.
